BIG PICTURE

We are seeking a highly capable, hands-on Controller to lead the company’s accounting operations, financial controls, close process, cash visibility, and finance infrastructure. This role is for someone who can create order, accuracy, and accountability in a fast-moving creator economy studio environment. The right person will own the integrity of the numbers, build scalable processes, strengthen financial discipline, and ensure the business has timely and reliable financial information and controls. This person must be able to lead from the front, solve root-cause issues, and establish trust in finance across the organization.

HOW YOU WILL SPEND YOUR TIME

  • Own all core accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll reconciliations, fixed assets, accruals, and month-end close.
  • Lead the preparation of weekly and monthly financial statements, close packages, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure financial records are accurate, complete, timely, and compliant with U.S. GAAP.
  • Build and maintain a disciplined close process with clear timelines, ownership, and review standards.
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls, approval workflows, and finance operating procedures.
  • Own real time production finance needs around per-video budgets, cost reports, overages, wrap reports, and cost-per-video analysis.
  • Own 13-week cash reporting, AP/AR aging, and short-term cash flow visibility so leadership has a clear view of cash in, cash out, and liquidity risk.
  • Oversee accounting system integrity across QuickBooks, payroll systems, GreenSlate, and related platforms, including chart of accounts structure, reconciliations, and process alignment.
  • Ensure bills, vendor records, payment workflows, and balance tracking are handled accurately and on time. Create spend controls around vendor onboarding, approval limits, purchase orders, credit cards, and expense policies.
  • Partner with HR and Operations on payroll reconciliations, labor-related accounting, and finance process compliance.
  • Serve as the finance partner to production, helping teams understand constraints without losing sight of real operating needs.
  • Lead audit readiness and manage internal and external audits from planning through resolution.
  • Manage, and develop the accounting team with clear standards, ownership, and accountability.
  • Identify breakdowns early, escalate issues quickly, and drive corrective action before problems compound.

WHAT YOU HAVE

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leader.
  • Strong command of U.S. GAAP, monthly close, reconciliations, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Proven success improving accounting accuracy, team discipline, and process rigor in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong cash management instincts and experience building practical cash reporting and forecasting visibility.
  • Experience owning AP, AR, payroll accounting, and general ledger operations at scale.
  • Strong systems experience, including QuickBooks, payroll systems, GreenSlate, NetSuite, or similar platforms.
  • Strong Excel and Google Workspace skills.
  • Experience leading audits and coordinating with outside auditors, tax partners, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work hands-on in the details while leading a team and improving infrastructure.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Highly organized, responsive, and detail-obsessed.
  • A builder of process that provides clarity.
  • Calm under pressure and able to create clarity in messy environments.
  • Strong on follow-through, ownership, and accountability.
  • Able to partner cross-functionally without becoming passive or vague.
  • Someone others can trust because your numbers are right and your word means something.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
