About the role:

CLA is looking to hire a Controller for our Client Accounting and Advisory Service (CAAS) who can sit in our Southern California offices, preferably Century City or Pasadena. This role will primarily assist our Business Management/Family Office clients. Our CAAS practice helps our clients transform their business with a collaborative approach that allows them to seamlessly mitigate risk, overcome challenges, meet deadlines, and identify personnel to help them with their workforce needs.

As a Controller, you will:

  • Assist the accounting team to record complex transactions
  • Review complex account reconciliations prepared by the accounting team
  • Complete the monthly, quarterly, and annual adjusting and closing process.
  • Adhere to the client’s organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards. 
  • Provide detailed review of the general ledger, financial statements and required work papers
  • Analyze and interpret financial information and regularly present to the client’s leadership
  • Develop budgets, analyze variances and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Review payroll and payroll tax compliance
  • Ensure overall responsiveness to client requests and sustain client relationships as a close associate to the Principal.
  •  Point person on asset acquisitions and dispositions, client loans, cooperative applications, etc.
  •  Provide guidance on the client’s insurance plan (includes homeowners, personal liability, auto, etc.; business, if applicable, life, long term care, disability).
  •  Facilitate client onboarding process with support from Principal.
  •  Provide guidance on year-end payroll including bonus payrolls to officers from loan out entities.
  •  Develop working knowledge of retirement plans, gift and estate planning concepts.
  •  Be responsible for understanding the Client’s organization and structure, knowing the product/services and keeping abreast of Client news and changes.
  •  Prepare loan applications.
  •  Preparation of more complex investment analysis reports and understand the underlying asset classes.
  •  Tracks residual, profit participant and fee income payments.
  •  Anticipate and address client concerns and escalating problems proactively and as they arise.

What you will need:

  • A BS degree in accounting or related field required.
  • 6 years relevant work experience as a Controller or equivalent is required.
  • Accounting back-office experience is required.
  • Relevant experience in Business Management/Family Office accounting is required.
  • Experience in entertainment and sports industry preferred.
  • Public accounting experience preferred but not required.
  • CPA certification is preferred but not required.
  • Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems. AgilLink experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency with applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc).
  • Ability to travel to local client sites.

The wage range for this position is: $111,000 – $187,000

Factors such as geography, experience, education, skills, and knowledge may impact position of pay within the range.
