Job Summary

We’re looking for a Contract Video Editor who can contribute to a team that does it all: full-cycle video production and creation, audio engineering for podcasts, live stream production, and digital content management. Our multimedia team bridges creative and technical execution — from capturing high-quality audio and video to editing, encoding, and distributing multimedia content using tools like Brightcove and publishing across platforms like our own site, YouTube, X, Apple, and Spotify.
First and foremost, we’re looking for an expert video editor. But we’re extra interested if you’re capable and flexible enough to help on other projects that come up. If you're a self-starting doer who can figure things out in a high-quality way, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities (in order of importance)Post-Production
  • Edit video content for our member website as well as YouTube, social media, and livestreams using Adobe Premiere Pro and other Adobe Creative Cloud tools.
  • Add basic motion graphics, lower thirds, and transitions using After Effects or similar.
  • Color correct and audio mix video projects to meet quality standards.
  • Export, compress, and transcode files for optimized playback across multiple platforms.
Video Production
  • Coordinate remote recordings on platforms like Riverside, and assist remote guests in optimizing their audio and video setups to ensure high-quality production standards.
  • Plan, shoot, and light video for a variety of formats (talking heads, interviews, explainers, livestreams, promos).
  • Operate cameras and manage basic on-set production needs.
  • Collaborate with producers and talent to capture high-quality visuals on tight timelines.
Platform & Content Management
  • Distribute and manage video/audio content using Brightcove, YouTube Studio, and podcast hosting platforms.
  • Upload, tag, and schedule content for maximum discoverability and performance.
  • Ensure file organization, metadata consistency, and cross-platform publishing standards.
Additional Potential Responsibilities Live Streaming Operations
  • Run professional live broadcasts using tools like Evmux, OBS, or Streamyard.
  • Set up audio/video feeds, monitor stream health, and troubleshoot technical issues in real-time.
  • Ensure stream outputs are clean, branded, and consistent with content goals.
Audio Engineering & Podcast Production
  • Record, edit, mix, and master professional-grade audio and video for podcasts.
  • Manage studio and remote recording setups with multiple audio/video sources.
  • Ensure audio is clean, balanced, and optimized for various distribution platforms.
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in multimedia production, with demonstrable expertise in both audio and video.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Premiere Pro, Audition, After Effects, and Photoshop.
  • Strong understanding of video post-production workflows, codecs, and delivery specs.
  • Familiarity with managing content across platforms/tools like YouTube, X, Brightcove, and podcast distribution networks.
Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with transcription tools, AI-enhanced editing tools, and digital asset management systems.
  • Prior work in fast-paced content environments (e.g., news, entertainment, media, education, or finance).
  • Experience optimizing video for social engagement (thumbnails, titles, hooks, shorts).
Hourly Pay Range
$45$60 USD

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
