Mob Entertainment is a startup multimedia studio that is best known for our hit indie horror game "Poppy Playtime".  This franchise is one of the hottest new properties in gaming, and our team is naturally expanding as our ambition expands.  To give a taste of our brand's popularity, more than 100 billion YouTube views of Poppy Playtime related content have occurred since the game's launch 4 years ago.

The Role

We’re looking for a Contract UI/UX Designer / UI Artist who can combine strong visual design skills with player-first thinking to craft intuitive, immersive, and visually striking user interfaces.

This role sits at the intersection of design, art, and gameplay. You’ll be responsible for both the user experience (flow, usability, clarity) and the visual execution (layout, motion, style) of in-game UI, helping ensure players can seamlessly engage with our worlds without breaking immersion.

*******MUST HAVE VIDEO GAME EXPERIENCE*******

What You’ll Do
  • Design intuitive and engaging user experiences that improve player engagement and ease of use, including player flows, wireframes, and interaction models
  • Prototype UI/UX solutions to test usability and player experience
  • Ensure UI readability, accessibility, and responsiveness across platforms
  • Create high-quality UI visuals that align with the game’s tone, style, and horror atmosphere
  • Design clear and effective icons, symbols, and visual indicators to help players understand game mechanics, objectives, and feedback
  • Own the design of complex, high-impact UI systems such as HUD, inventory management, and other in-game interfaces
  • Drive the UI design workflow from wireframing and prototyping to creating art assets and supporting in implementation
  • Work closely with game designers, programmers, and other team members to ensure that the UI/UX design is in harmony with the overall vision and mechanics of the game
  • Create and maintain UI style guides, component libraries, and documentation
What We’re Looking For
  • 3+ years of experience in UI/UX design or UI art for games or interactive media
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating both UX thinking and high-quality visual UI work
  • Experience designing for games, including HUDs, menus, and interactive systems
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar
  • Understanding of usability, player psychology, and interaction design principles
  • Experience implementing UI in a game engine (Unreal Engine preferred)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of visual hierarchy, typography, and layout
Nice to Have
  • Experience working on horror or atmospheric games
  • Motion design or UI animation skills
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine UMG and Blueprints
  • Basic scripting or technical implementation knowledge
  • Experience with live games or iterative UX improvements based on player feedback
  • Understanding of accessibility standards in games

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
