CONTENT & COMMUNITY SPECIALIST (CONTRACT/FREELANCE)

Hue is an independent creator-led, community-powered media company working at the intersection of community, commerce, and culture to build a more connected future. We believe that what connects us is stronger than what divides us. We bring together values-aligned voices, centering the rising majority.

Content includes creator-led social media storytelling (Fahad Khawaja, founder of Hue), email newsletters, YouTube channel with video series and podcast, a contributor-driven digital magazine, and events. Brands partner with us as sponsors across our events and content to build relationships with a deeply engaged audience of leaders representing marketing and comms executives across the Fortune 100, unicorn tech startups, media companies, and advertising and comms agencies, along with entrepreneurs, and creators.

The Content & Community Specialist (Contractor/Freelance) will help to manage our digital presence, grow engagement, and publish compelling content cohesively across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and experienced in integrating advertising into broader marketing efforts without disrupting brand authenticity.

You’ll manage content planning and community engagement while using Asana to keep projects on track and aligned with business goals and partner requirements.

Ideal candidates are ruthless when it comes to prioritization and timelines, while being agile professionals. You’ll report directly to the founder and coordinate with contributors (where applicable) to publish content that engages the audience and drives growth. If you deliver your best work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment with an exceptional sense of ownership and accountability and without layers of red tape, this may be the role for you. You will play a key role in enhancing a growing digital presence.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, create, and publish visually engaging content across email newsletters, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and web.
  • Integrate sponsor and advertising content into the overall content calendar.
  • Monitor LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube to drive community interactions.
  • Analyze engagement and optimize based on insights.
  • Use Asana to manage content workflows, deadlines, and collaboration.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1+ year of hands-on experience in a digital media content-creation environment, especially with content on newsletters, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • High degree of comfort receiving and implementing feedback while managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with sponsored content/advertising integration and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and project/time management skills, with proficiency in Asana (or similar tools).
  • Experience with email marketing and YouTube is preferred.
  • Problem-solving mindset and optimistic approach: you’re not waiting for someone to assign you tasks – you’re already doing them
  • Self awareness, adaptability, and exceptional sense of accountability
  • Solid understanding of using visual design in social and digital storytelling to drive audience growth
  • Proficiency with lightweight content or editing tools (e.g., Adobe Express) – whatever gets the job done fast in an organized way
  • Ability and readiness to work US East Coast hours (8AM-4PM ET)

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience in journalism/news, media, or content-led organizations
  • Experience working with high-profile creators, executives, talent, or celebrities
  • Experience working with contributor networks or in creator-focused media

BENEFITS

  • Freelance compensation ($30-$50/hour)
  • Flexible remote work environment with opportunity to meet in-person
  • Access to a vibrant contributor and creator community
  • Opportunity to attend community gatherings, events, and panels
  • Opportunity to shape content that reaches a wide audience for a meaningful media brand
  • Direct role in telling stories that mainstream media often misses
  • Opportunity to grow with us through long-term or retainer work

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
