Job Description

We are seeking a driven and insightful Consumer Insights Manager or Associate Consumer Insights Manager to play a pivotal role in shaping our new product launches and expanding our brand within the creative project-making space. In this role, you will bring our strategic product research agenda to live, translating consumer passion and needs into innovative product concepts and enhanced consumer experiences. Partnering closely with product managers and cross-functional teams, you will design, conduct, and analyze research, transforming insights into strategies that advance our products and the consumer experience.

You will lead and execute quantitative (e.g., category trend analysis, attitude and usage studies, concept testing, syndicated data analysis) and qualitative (e.g., IDIs, panel communities, online bulletin boards, focus groups, ethnographies) research, designing the right study for the question at hand. The ideal candidate will have both client-side and vendor/supplier-side experience, with a focus on product innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute adhoc research projects, quant or qual, from start to finish, including refining and clarifying stakeholder research requests, designing studies, developing questionnaires or discussion guides, programming surveys or screeners, fielding surveys or recruiting for qualitative studies using internal or third-party sample, analyzing data, creating final reports, and aligning teams on recommendations
  • Conduct qualitative research, including IDIs, panel communities, online bulletin boards, focus groups, and ethnographies
  • Analyze large survey-based datasets and conduct higher-level analysis, including driver analysis
  • Provide design, execution, and analysis support to research projects your Consumer Insights teammates are leading
  • Develop expertise in our existing body of research, extracting key learnings to answer questions and ensure new studies speak to existing insights
  • Employ team, industry, and research-on-research best practices in your work
  • Ensure stakeholder buy-in, taking care that stakeholders have a stake in, digest, and know how to apply research findings
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, using insights to drive alignment, action, and win-win outcomes
  • This is a hands-on role, with potential to manage vendors

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of consumer insights experience in a corporate environment, on the research supplier side as well as client side
  • Deep experience designing and executing quantitative or qualitative research studies from start to finish
  • Experience analyzing large survey-based datasets and conducting analysis using SPSS
  • Skilled at insight generation and synthesis across studies
  • Knowledge of and adherence to research best practices
  • Detail-oriented; ensures reporting is accurate and put into appropriate context
  • Strong project management skills; ability to juggle multiple projects at one time and self-prioritize workload
  • Excellent communicator and cross-functional relationship builder
  • Team player who prioritizes team and business needs
  • Exceptional self-management skills and high EQ
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, with passion for process improvement
  • Experience managing vendors a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the social sciences; advanced degree is a plus

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
