Fostering a diverse group of innovative thinkers from all backgrounds, Cypress people are drawn to work in a purpose-driven organization. We hope you will join us.
The Role
We are seeking a data-driven and market-savvy Congestion & Market Analyst or Senior Analyst to join the Revenue team. This role is central to understanding nodal pricing, transmission congestion, and energy storage economics—providing insights that guide project siting, commercial strategy, and asset optimization across the CCR portfolio.
What You’ll Do
You will focus on developing forward-looking congestion and price forecasts, modeling energy storage revenues, and building analytics to optimize CCR’s operational and development fleet. This position is highly cross-functional, working closely with the development, portfolio management, SCED modeling, and investment analytics teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze transmission congestion trends and their impact on energy prices, project siting, and revenue potential across ISO/RTO markets (ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, ISONE, MISO, SPP).
- Maintain and evolve CCR’s internal pricing forecast database, ensuring data accuracy, version control, and transparency across modeling workflows.
- Run utility-scale energy storage revenue forecasts using a mix of internal and external tools.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to incorporate congestion and pricing forecasts into investment decisions and site selection processes.
- Create tools and dashboards to communicate congestion and price risk to commercial, operations, and portfolio management teams.
Required Qualifications
- Deep curiosity about how power markets work and a strong desire to understand the "why" behind pricing behavior and grid constraints.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with a demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage ambiguity, and drive projects forward independently
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Applied Math, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- 2+ years of experience in power market analytics, nodal pricing, energy storage modeling, or ISO market operations.
- Proficiency in Python for data modeling and analysis (e.g., pandas, numpy, matplotlib, plotly, Dash).
- Strong understanding of nodal market structures, LMP formation, and transmission congestion fundamentals.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey complex analysis to diverse audiences.
Preferred Skills
- Advanced experience with SQL, Snowflake, and cloud-based data pipelines for managing large-scale market datasets and automating data workflows.
- Familiarity with congestion forecasting tools or production cost models (e.g., DAYZER, PLEXOS, PROMOD).
- Exposure to SCUC/SCED dispatch principles and ISO market design.
- Knowledge of nodal trading strategies or financial transmission rights (FTRs/CRRs).
