About Our Summer Internship Program

Our Summer Internship Program is designed for students entering their final year of university who are eager to gain meaningful, real-world experience in a fast paced, collaborative, and professional environment.

As a Summer Intern, you'll participate in a comprehensive onboarding experience led by our University Relations team to set you up for success from day one. Throughout the program, you'll also have the opportunity to participate in weekly professional development sessions, networking events, social activities, and other engaging experienced designed to support your personal and professional growth.

The program takes place from May – August 2027.

Your Role

As AI Engineering Intern for our Competitive Intelligence team, you will help the Competitive Intelligence team members design, develop, test, fine-tune, and manage AI chatbots, agents, and apps that help make the team’s processes more automated, scalable, and intelligent.

These AI tools will help the team:

  • Scale and accelerate market and competitive research
  • Accelerate competitive data analysis
  • Analyze and distribute competitive news with the appropriate stakeholders
  • Predict competitors’ next strategic moves
  • Automate the creation and upkeep of competitive Sales resources
  • Challenge our competitive resources to strengthen them before sharing them with users
  • Deliver contextual competitive insight to Sales teams at the right time and in the right format
  • Further automate the Competitive Intelligence helpdesk responses

This internship is not observational. As our AI Engineering Intern, you will design, build, and ship working AI-powered tools that will benefit 3,500+ Sales Representatives, support global Marketing campaigns, help refine key product roadmap decisions, keep our leadership informed of strategic market motions, and more. We will keep using your deliverables after the internship completion. You will also help us fine-tune existing AI tools.

By the end of your internship, you will have:

  • Delivered at least 1 functioning resource creation agent
  • Delivered 1 functioning resource challenging agent
  • Increased the Sales support AI agent’s response accuracy over 95%
  • Helped implement our Competitive Intelligence helpdesk v2
  • Designed the AI-powered technical comparison table builder v2
  • Delivered 1-2 other functioning projects that we defined together
  • Documented how to maintain the deliverables you delivered

In this role, you will work with our Competitive Intelligence team members, as well as key Competitive Intelligence stakeholders who use our competitive AI tools and competitive resources (Sales Representatives, Product Managers, Product Marketers, …).

Qualifications

  • Practical experience with Anthropic Claude Chat bots, Cowork projects, Code projects, and Design projects — not just coursework but actual hands-on Claude experience
  • Working knowledge of agentic/tool use patterns (function calling, RAG, basic orchestration) — doesn't need to be an expert, but shouldn't be learning what an agent is on day one
  • Exposure to evaluating LLM output quality — building a test set, scoring responses, and determining whether a prompt change helped
  • Exposure to version control basics, so work is recoverable and reviewable
  • Python proficiency; comfortable with API integration, data parsing, and basic pipeline construction
  • SQL exposure; able to read and modify a trivial transformation query
  • Ability to work with ambiguous, evolving requirements and iterate quickly on a 10-week clock — this is not a spec-handed-to-you internship
  • Comfortable interviewing subject-matter experts (analysts) to reverse-engineer a workflow before automating it
  • Rising Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or a graduate student in an accredited college or university in AI engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • Excellent written, verbal and communication skills
  • Willingness to learn about technology
  • Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently with limited direction in a fast-paced environment; must be a high-energy, motivated self-starter
  • Understanding and operating within the team's competitive intelligence ethics policy (code of ethics to be shared during interviews)

As a paid intern at Veeam, you’ll receive:

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
