Job Title: Community Engagement Coordinator 
Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt (25–30 hours per week) 
Reports to: Vice President of Development 
Salary Range: $25.00 - $27.50 Hourly, DOE 

Position Overview 

The part-time Community Engagement Coordinator (25–30 hours per week) supports the mission of the Armed Services YMCA San Diego by advancing volunteer engagement, community partnerships, and select fundraising initiatives. As a collaborative, support-focused member of the Development Department, this role works closely with Development, Marketing, and Programs teams to strengthen relationships across military, corporate, and civilian communities. 

The position plays a key role in coordinating volunteers, enhancing donor and community engagement, and contributing to outreach and fundraising efforts. This role offers potential for growth into a full-time opportunity based on organizational needs and individual performance. 

Key Responsibilities 

Community Engagement & Outreach 

  • Support outreach efforts within military installations, community events, and partner activations to promote volunteerism and ASYMCA programs 

  • Serve as a frontline ambassador for ASYMCA by engaging the community through outreach events, tabling activations, and networking opportunities to drive awareness, volunteer participation, and community connections 

  • Assist in building and maintaining relationships with corporate partners, community organizations, and military stakeholders 

  • Represent ASYMCA at community events, meetings, and networking opportunities 

  • Confidently address groups and represent the organization in a public speaking capacity 

Volunteer Program Support 

  • Assist in recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, and stewarding volunteers 

  • Support the coordination of volunteer opportunities for programs, events, and operations 

  • Track and maintain volunteer records using Volgistics volunteer management software 

  • Help ensure a positive and meaningful volunteer experience 

Development & Fundraising Support 

  • Support fundraising and donor engagement activities in collaboration with the Development team 

  • Assist in identifying and helping to qualify volunteers as potential donors 

  • Help build and strengthen philanthropic relationships through engagement and stewardship efforts 

  • Contribute to donor and volunteer pipeline development 

Corporate & Partner Engagement 

  • Assist Development team with corporate volunteer groups and engagement opportunities 

  • Support coordination of service days, group volunteer activities, and partner activations 

Event & Campaign Support 

  • Provide support for volunteer coordination and logistics for fundraising events, campaigns, and community initiatives 

  • Assist with execution of events, holiday drives, and military family programs 

Data, Reporting & Coordination 

  • Maintain accurate volunteer and engagement records 

  • Assist in reporting on volunteer participation and community engagement outcomes 

  • Support alignment of volunteer efforts with programmatic and fundraising goals 

  • Perform other administrative and organizational duties as assigned 

Qualifications 

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or related field preferred 

  • 1–3 years of experience in volunteer coordination, nonprofit support, community engagement, or fundraising support 

  • Experience working with military communities or service organizations preferred 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Strong organizational and communication skills 

  • Comfortable with public speaking and presenting to groups of varying sizes 

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, support role 

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and database systems (experience with Volgistics a plus) 

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities 

Additional Requirements 

  • Military base access is highly desirable 

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds as needed for events and program support 

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support events 

  • Reliable transportation and valid California driver’s license
