AIR is seeking a Communications Associate with expertise in digital communications (e.g. social media, web-based content, and email) that is passionate about making education research accessible and actionable. The associate will contribute to multiple internal and external communications initiatives, including supporting research, evaluation, and technical assistance projects with clear, effective dissemination. We seek a professional who is a detail-oriented collaborator and a strong storyteller who can translate complex research and technical work into clear, engaging products for various audiences, including educators, policymakers, and practitioners.
The Communications Associate will join AIR’s Learning Supports program, which conducts special education research, evaluation, and implementation support for federal and state agencies, school districts, and foundations. The program produces rigorous evidence and practical tools to inform policy and practice, helping ensure early and equitable access to learning and the supports children and families need to succeed.
This position has the flexibility to work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of AIR’s U.S. office locations. This does not include U.S. territories.

Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with communications staff, researchers, and technical assistance providers on the execution of communications plans that engage education audiences.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement multifaceted social media and web content strategies focused on education related topics.
- Create graphics and videos to accompany digital communications, ensuring consistent branding and best graphic design practices are applied.
- Work collaboratively with communications staff and context experts to develop both print- and web-based products (e.g. newsletters, reports, presentations, postcards, and flyers) for internal and external audiences.
- Support the development and maintenance of online materials and resources.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all client communications.
- Stay informed of industry trends and best practices in client communication and engagement.
- Provide administrative project support to senior management and clientele, where applicable.
Qualifications:
Education, Knowledge, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field with 2+ years of experience in communications, preferably in a client services or customer service role, OR Master’s degree.
- Strong understanding of communication principles and best practices.
- Experience with managing social media, including creating graphics and/or videos for social media.
- Experience with web content creation and management.
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Proficiency in using LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X, and Bluesky.
- Proficiency in using Canva.
- Strong writing and storytelling skills.
- Familiarity in using email distribution platforms such as Mailchimp and iContact.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Customer service-oriented mindset.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate efficiently in a virtual work environment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
