Communications Assistant

Cooley is seeking a Communications Assistant to join the Marketing and Business Development team.

Position summary:  Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, the Communications Assistant will work closely with marketing and communications team members and attorneys to support Cooley’s full spectrum of communications content, media and other related marketing, branding and reputational activities. The overarching goal is to drive Cooley’s distinctive, elite brand and culture through its media, social media, external communications and creative marketing content, both written and visual. Work is defined by the goals, objectives and policies of the marketing department. Cooley’s fast-paced environment works to support the most forward-looking companies in the world; knowledge of and enthusiasm for this space is particularly welcomed. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position responsibilities

Communications:

  • Assist with admin, organizing, drafting and editing
  • Web content, including posting and management
  • Press releases and other communications
  • Nominations for industry accolades and surveys
  • Manage and maintain various communications calendars
  • PR Activity Tracking
  • Press list maintenance
  • Contribute to PR planning and program initiatives
  • Social media
  • Assist in posting content
  • Help with analytics and administration of social media use
  • Manage and maintain team meetings and schedule

Operational focus:

  • Work cooperatively with all to advance both marketing and general departmental and firmwide goals and projects
  • Combine great team-working skills with individual initiative and creative contributions
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills and experience: 

Required:

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • After training, exhibit proficiency in Social Media platforms and Salesforce

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, English, Marketing, Communications or a related field
  • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment, with a working knowledge of professional services industries
  • Some experience in a marketing or PR/Communications field

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Self-starter who is able to work in a demanding, project-based environment
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
  • Ability to multi-task, problem solve, work well under pressure and coordinate sophisticated marketing programs with good results
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines
  •  Passion for business, tech and legal sectors and media verticals
  • Assertive, but flexible as to style; must be able to handle stressful situations and interact with various personalities and communication styles at all levels in the organization
  • Strong analytic and research skills
  • Strong ability to function well as a team member
  • Exhibit high energy and genuine enthusiasm for law firm marketing and communications activities and goals while maintaining a healthy, competitive spirit
  • Comprehensive, accurate note taking
  • Ability to develop professional relationships with department members, attorneys and firm staff
  • Reliable and punctual

Cooley offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package and is committed to fair and equitable employment practices. EOE.

The expected hourly pay range for this position with a work schedule of 40 hours per week is $25.00 - $33.00 ($52,000.00 - $68,640.00 annually). Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
