As Commercial Contracts Associate, at Impulse, you will be the first line of legal support for our commercial contracting activity – owning the first cut on agreements, moving deals forward efficiently, and ensuring Impulse's commercial relationships are structured to support a fast-growing business. This is a mid-level role for an attorney with solid commercial contracts experience who is eager to build and own a function, not just execute tasks. You will report to the VP, Government and Regulatory Affairs and work closely with Business Development, Finance, and legal team members to support Impulse’s growing portfolio of commercial launch and in-space transportation agreements.
NOTE: This position is on-site (Redondo Beach)

Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, with a primary focus on customer-facing contracts including launch services agreements, mission services agreements, and related commercial arrangements
  • Own the first-cut review and markup process for inbound and outbound commercial agreements, flagging key risks and issues for senior attorney review
  • Maintain and improve contract templates, standard positions, and playbooks to support faster, more consistent deal execution
  • Partner with Business Development and Finance to support deal structuring, customer negotiations, and contract execution
  • Track contract milestones, obligations, and renewals in coordination with Legal Operations
  • Support senior legal team members on more complex or high-stakes commercial transactions
  • Assist with development of scalable legal processes as the company’s commercial business grows

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university
  • 5+ years of commercial contracts experience, in a law firm and/or in-house
  • Familiarity with launch services, satellite, or space industry contracting
  • Demonstrated ability to independently draft and negotiate commercial agreements with limited supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and articulate legal and business risk clearly
  • Collaborative working style and comfort engaging directly with business stakeholders

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • 5+ years of demonstrated in-house experience at a technology, aerospace, or engineering-driven company
  • Experience building or improving contract operations processes (templates, tracking, intake workflows)

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
