Purpose

As Commercial Bid & Quote Manager, you will drive the cross-functional effort to turn complex B2B opportunities into compelling, accurate, and timely quotes and proposals across Aerospace & Defense and Commercial markets. Working closely with Business Development, Program Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning, Finance, Contracts, Supply Chain, Quality, and Executive Leadership, you will bring structure to ambiguous requests, establish clear ownership and decision paths, and drive the inputs, decisions, and approvals needed to bring new business under contract.

This role calls for an exceptionally resourceful operator who can bring structure to ambiguity while continuously improving how work gets done. You will quickly grasp technical concepts and commercial tradeoffs, navigate competing stakeholder priorities, and find creative solutions when established processes fall short. Beyond managing the day-to-day quote portfolio, you will develop the tools, automation, and repeatable processes that improve visibility, accelerate execution, and make future bids more efficient and reliable. At the S06 level, you will also lead broader, cross-functional improvements to the quoting operating model, helping establish standards and priorities that scale across the organization.

The Role

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Own End-to-End Bids and Quotes: Independently drive B2B quotes and Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimates from initial intake and scope definition through costing, pricing, reviews, approvals, and customer submission, coordinating inputs across technical, programmatic, financial, and commercial teams.
  • Build Scalable Processes, Tools, and Automation: Develop and continuously improve standardized workflows, templates, tools, and approval processes. Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, streamline cross-functional coordination, and improve the speed, consistency, and visibility of the quoting process.
  • Manage Quote Portfolio and Performance: Prioritize concurrent opportunities, maintain visibility into quote status, deadlines, and dependencies, and establish a consistent operating cadence. Track performance, identify bottlenecks, and provide actionable insights to improve execution and inform management decisions.
  • Drive Cross-Functional Alignment and Accountability: Navigate competing priorities to secure timely inputs and decisions from stakeholders across Engineering, Manufacturing, Program Management, Finance, Contracts, and other functions. Resolve disagreements, maintain accountability, and proactively escalate risks with recommended solutions.
  • Bring Order to Ambiguity and Solve Problems Creatively: Translate loosely defined or urgent needs into actionable plans with clear owners, dependencies, and deadlines. Exercise independent judgment, challenge ineffective processes, and find creative solutions to overcome obstacles and keep opportunities moving forward.
  • Translate Technical Inputs into Commercial Outputs: Rapidly develop working knowledge of Divergent's technology, manufacturing capabilities, and operational constraints, synthesizing complex technical and business inputs into clear scope, assumptions, pricing, and customer-facing deliverables.
  • Represent Divergent in Customer Engagements: Engage directly with customers to clarify requirements, align on scope and commercial expectations, negotiate pricing and contract terms, communicate Divergent’s technical and manufacturing capabilities, and advance opportunities toward contract award.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Transformation (S06): Lead broader, multi-team initiatives to improve Divergent's quoting operating model, align senior stakeholders on priorities, and drive adoption of new processes, systems, and standards across the organization.

Key Interfaces and Relationships:

The role sits within the Capture, Proposal, and Analytics Team and serves as a central link across Business Development, Engineering, Manufacturing, Program Management, Planning, Quality, Supply Chain, Strategy, Finance, Contracts, and Executive Leadership. The role coordinates internal decisions and approvals and interfaces with customers and partners as needed to clarify requirements, assumptions, pricing, deliverables, and timelines. At S06, the scope extends to leading function-wide and adjacent-team quoting initiatives and operating-model improvements.

Basic Qualifications
  • Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in management consulting, finance, business development, commercial operations, deal desk, bid/quote management, or another demanding analytical and cross-functional role
  • Demonstrated record of independently bringing structure to ambiguous, fast-moving situations and delivering high-quality outcomes despite incomplete inputs, shifting priorities, and tight deadlines
  • Exceptional problem-solving and creative judgment; ability to challenge ineffective processes, devise workable alternatives, and take ownership of resolving blockers without waiting for detailed direction
  • Proven ability to influence busy senior and technical stakeholders, even when operating without formal authority, build alignment, obtain decisions, and maintain accountability across functions
  • Strong analytical and commercial acumen, including facility with quantitative models, pricing inputs, business tradeoffs, and clear executive-ready communication
  • Ability to absorb unfamiliar technical concepts quickly, ask precise questions, and translate engineering or operational constraints into practical commercial implications
  • Experience improving or building repeatable workflows, reporting, templates, or automation; advanced proficiency with Excel and strong command of Word and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in top-tier consulting, investment banking, corporate finance, strategic operations, commercial deal desk, or high-growth industrial business development
  • Experience owning complex B2B quotes, pricing models, cost build-ups, proposals, or customer contracting processes in aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, or other technically complex industries
  • Experience implementing CRM, workflow automation, business intelligence, or data-driven quote-pipeline reporting and performance measurement
  • Experience designing and rolling out cross-functional operating cadences, approval structures, process standards, or scalable commercial systems with measurable improvements
  • For S06: demonstrated leadership of ambiguous, multi-team initiatives with broad autonomy, measurable impact, sustained adoption of new practices, and influence on function-wide priorities and standards
  • Current Secret or Top Secret DoD security clearance or ability to obtain and retain clearance within 365 days from submission

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
