Operate and set up CNC machines, collaborate with engineering for rapid iteration, conduct inspections, and support production in advanced manufacturing.
At Layup Parts, our mission is simple: deliver composite parts faster. We’re not just another machine shop—we’re a technology-first manufacturing startup that’s revolutionizing how composite tooling and parts are made for the aerospace, defense, and motorsports industries. Our customers are developing tomorrow's high-tech products, and we are building technology to accelerate their success.
We design, machine, print, and build faster than anyone else in the industry—and we’re looking for machinists who thrive in high-performance environments and want to be part of the team that’s redefining what’s possible in advanced manufacturing.
We value initiative and attitude and are building a team of outstanding individuals who take pride in their work and are eager to tackle any challenge.
What You’ll Do:
- Set up and operate 3- and 5-axis CNC machines, including either Zimmerman, HAAS mills, and Lathes.
- Run both billet and non-traditional stock (e.g., 3D prints, foam, castings).
- Collaborate with engineering to provide real-time DFM feedback and drive rapid iteration.
- Occasionally work with LFAM 3D printers and get hands-on with hybrid manufacturing workflows.
- Perform post-process and in-process inspection of molds, tooling, and final parts using standard metrology tools.
- Move quickly between R&D prototypes and low-rate production runs.
- Communicate actively across teams—engineering, composites, inspection, and operations.
Who You Are:
- Be awesome! Be the kind of person you want to work with!
- You take ownership of your work and always bring a “get it done” attitude.
- You thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments where speed matters.
- You’re not just a machinist—you’re a builder, a problem-solver, and a teammate.
- You believe in craftsmanship, but you're not precious—you prioritize iteration and progress.
- You take pride in high-quality output and speak up when something isn’t right.
Must-Haves:
- 5+ years of CNC machining experience including setup, tooling, and troubleshooting.
- Strong knowledge of G and M code and CNC operations.
- Familiarity with inspection tools like calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work hands-on in a production setting.
- Willingness to learn new machines, processes, and tech on the fly.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand for long periods and work hands-on in a production setting.
Bonus Points:
- Experience operating 5-axis gantry mills.
- Background in aerospace, defense, or motorsport tooling and mold making.
- Experience machining from complex or non-rectangular stock (e.g. foam blocks, prints, castings).
- Comfortable with Siemens or HAAS controllers.
- Past work in both R&D/prototype and production environments.
- Exposure to 3D printers (any type), hybrid workflows, or additive-subtractive processes.
- CAM experience with Tebis, Fusion, or ESPRIT.
- CAD familiarity with NX, SolidWorks, or CATIA.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene
Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.
Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech
- Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
- Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
- Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
- Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
