Working at Atlassian
Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity.
Atlassian is looking for a product leader to own the strategy, delivery, and operating model for our Customer Managed Keys (CMK) and encryption platform portfolio. This role will lead a high-impact area at the intersection of enterprise trust, platform capability, regulatory readiness, and customer value. The Product Lead will define how encryption capabilities scale across Atlassian Cloud, clarify product and platform scope, and drive outcomes across CMK, encryption platform, bring-your-own-key patterns, and adjacent encryption services.
The CMK/Encryption Platform Product Lead is responsible for product strategy, roadmap definition, and cross-functional execution for Atlassian's encryption platform work. The role spans both customer-facing capabilities and foundational platform services, requiring strong judgment on where to standardize, where to differentiate, and how to sequence investments across security, scale, and commercial impact.
This leader will work across product, engineering, security, go-to-market, legal, compliance, and customer-facing teams to ensure Atlassian's encryption capabilities meet enterprise expectations while remaining durable, usable, and economically sound.
The team's scope includes:
  • Customer Managed Keys strategy, roadmap, packaging, and lifecycle
  • Cryptor and related encryption platform capabilities used across Atlassian Cloud
  • Bring Your Own Key and external key management patterns, including future-facing options where relevant
  • Encryption standards, architecture direction, and platform consistency across products and cells
  • Enterprise customer requirements related to trust, control, compliance, and key management
  • Prioritization of investments that balance customer demand, risk reduction, platform leverage, and revenue influence

What you'll do
  • Own the product vision and roadmap for CMK and encryption platform capabilities across Atlassian Cloud
  • Clarify product scope and platform boundaries across CMK, Encryption Platfrom, and adjacent encryption services so teams can execute with clear accountability
  • Drive roadmap decisions across customer commitments, enterprise needs, architecture constraints, and commercial priorities
  • Partner closely with engineering and security leaders on encryption architecture, technical direction, delivery sequencing, and operational readiness
  • Lead planning for key initiatives such as CMK expansion, platform standardization, key management evolution, cell-scoped capabilities, and efficiency improvements
  • Represent the product area in executive, cross-functional, and customer settings with clear narrative, strong judgment, and crisp tradeoff framing
  • Work with field, support, and customer-facing teams to understand enterprise demand, shape adoption strategy, and unblock strategic opportunities
  • Ensure roadmap choices reflect security, compliance, resilience, scale, and usability expectations for a critical trust capability
  • Create alignment across product, platform, and go-to-market teams on what is being built, why it matters, and how success will be measured
  • Maintain continuity on in-flight work while improving role clarity, planning quality, and long-term portfolio coherence

At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. We follow consistent hiring practices and account for each candidate's skills, knowledge, and experience when setting base pay within the range.
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
This role requires:
  • Significant product management experience leading complex platform or enterprise product areas with broad cross-functional dependency
  • Deep expertise in encryption, key management, and security product domains, with the ability to engage credibly on architecture, threat considerations, control models, operational risk, and customer trust requirements
  • Strong command of cloud security and data protection concepts, including how encryption capabilities are designed, operated, and scaled in large multi-tenant environments
  • Demonstrated ability to lead security- or infrastructure-intensive product spaces where correctness, resilience, and risk management are central to product success
  • Experience translating highly technical platform investments into clear product strategy, roadmap choices, and customer value
  • Track record of driving alignment across engineering, security, legal, compliance, support, sales, and executive stakeholders
  • Ability to make high-quality prioritization decisions with incomplete information and competing demands
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to simplify technical complexity without losing precision
  • Strong customer empathy and enterprise judgment, especially for regulated, security-conscious, or large-scale customers
  • Experience owning roadmap commitments and execution in areas with material business, trust, or strategic impact

Nice to have
  • Experience with customer-managed keys, external key services, HSM-related systems, or cloud-native key management ecosystems
  • Familiarity with enterprise compliance landscapes and trust programs that shape encryption expectations
  • Experience in pricing, packaging, or commercialization of advanced enterprise platform capabilities
  • Background working across both foundational platform teams and customer-facing product organizations
  • Understanding of large-scale migration, re-encryption, or cryptographic lifecycle programs

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
