Overview

As part of the GPSU program, we are seeking a Cloud Infrastructure Intern to support GuidePoint Security’s Northeast region.  In this role, you will work with the NE AI and AppSec teams as part of the NE DevSecOps team, contributing to the Security Innovation and Technology Lab (SITL), GuidePoint’s internal multi-cloud research and evaluation environment spanning AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform. You will gain hands-on experience building and managing cloud lab infrastructure under mentorship, contributing to real POC and POV engagements for clients.

The SITL enables clients to bypass the cost and complexity of running their own evaluations: GuidePoint conducts them in a controlled, production-representative lab on the client’s behalf. Every environment in the SITL is built and operated through infrastructure as code, automation, and agentic tooling. Experience with IaC tools is required; Currently enrolled, or recently graduated with a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is preferred. This role is designed for technically strong learners ready to work on real infrastructure in a demanding, practitioner-led environment. You will also observe limited client-facing engagements under mentorship.

Responsibilities

  • Cloud Infrastructure & IaC
    • Assist in designing and deploying multi-cloud lab environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) using Terraform and Ansible under mentorship
    • Contribute to CI/CD pipeline development using GitHub Actions to provision, configure, and tear down lab environments
    • Write, test, and maintain reusable IaC modules in a version-controlled environment, building familiarity with infrastructure-as-code best practices
    • Support environment builds for security tool POC and POV engagements from requirements through teardown
    • Maintain version-controlled lab documentation and runbooks to ensure repeatability across the SITL team
  • Security Tool Evaluation & Agentic Automation
    • Support the execution of security tool evaluations across SITL categories including vulnerability management, CNAPP, EDR, application security, and AI security products
    • Assist in developing agentic harnesses that exercise vendor products against client-defined test cases, integrating with AI and LLM APIs
    • Help document test cases derived from client requirements and real-world use cases
    • Contribute to POC and POV findings reports and participate in client walkthrough sessions under mentorship
    • Stay current on emerging cloud platforms, security tooling, and AI capabilities relevant to the SITL’s evaluation mission

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with at least one IaC tool (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, or equivalent) is required
  • Currently enrolled, or recently graduated with a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is preferred
  • Exposure to scripting or programming (Python, Bash, or similar) and interest in automation and infrastructure
  • Enthusiasm for cloud infrastructure, DevOps practices, and security tool evaluation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce precise technical documentation and contribute to client-facing materials
  • Technical aptitude and comfort building real infrastructure in a fast-paced, practitioner-led environment
  • Eastern/Central time zone, preferred

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
