Schrödinger seeks a Cloud Engineer to join us in our mission to transform the discovery of therapeutics and materials.

Schrödinger has pioneered a physics-based software platform that enables discovery of high-quality, novel molecules for drug development and materials applications more rapidly and at lower cost compared to traditional methods. The software platform is used by biopharmaceutical and industrial companies, academic institutions, and government laboratories around the world. Our multidisciplinary drug discovery team also leverages the software platform to advance collaborative programs and its own pipeline of novel therapeutics to address unmet medical needs.

As a member of our Information Technology team, you’ll play a crucial role in facilitating the partnership between our development and operations teams. By building solutions in a highly collaborative environment, you’ll help scientists accelerate their R&D activities, reduce costs, and make discoveries that wouldn’t otherwise be possible.

Who will love this job:

  • An experienced cloud engineer who focuses on designing, implementing, and rectifying scalable cloud solutions and has an in-depth knowledge of Google Cloud Platform and other platforms like AWS or Azure
  • An excellent problem-solver who enjoys collaborating in an Agile environment
  • A proficient user of Infrastructure as Code tools (such as Github/GitLab, Terraform, Ansible) and automating change management via CI/CD
  • A networking, security, and data storage expert
  • A skilled scripter and programmer (Python, Bash, etc.)
  • An advanced Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL) administrator (and we’d like to hire someone with some macOS and Windows administration background as well)
  • Experience in a compliance-heavy environment will be helpful (ISO, SOX, GxP, etc.)

What you’ll do:

  • Participate in the design and architecture of cloud solutions that strategically meet the company's scalability, performance, and security requirements
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including technical and non-technical colleagues, to understand their business needs and requirements and align efforts and strategies across teams
  • Empower Schrödinger staff to make effective use of cloud resources holistically, including scalability, performance, cost optimization, security, and compliance as components of solutions
  • Leverage industry best practices in areas such as automation, Infrastructure as Code, monitoring, logging, diagnosis, and troubleshooting
  • Leverage industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices while introducing and advocating for new technologies that can enhance the company's cloud capabilities

What you should have:

  • At least five years of real-world, hands-on experience with cloud engineering in an enterprise environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or comparable experience in a professional setting
  • A proven track record of creating and improving internal standards, processes, and policies

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
