Claims Insights Analyst

As a Claims Insights Analyst on the Claims Trends & Insights team, you are a trusted thought partner to operational and strategic leaders within an assigned claims domain (such as Auto Physical Damage, Bodily Injury, Property, or Shared Services). You will identify and monitor trends, investigate the drivers behind them, and translate what you find into clear, actionable insights that lead to better business outcomes.

You will spend the majority of your time on investigative analysis and forward-looking work, not recurring reporting; reports that come out of your analysis will be operationalized and handed off to the reporting team. You will query large datasets with SQL, build analyses in Python, and develop Tableau visualizations and briefing decks that move decisions forward.

What You Will Do
  • Own ongoing trend monitoring and investigative analysis for an assigned claims domain, becoming the team's go-to expert on the data, the operations, and the questions that matter to your stakeholders.
  • Investigate the drivers behind what the data shows, going beyond the what to the why, and present findings as clear options and recommendations rather than open-ended observations.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with operational leaders, peers in IT and the broader analytics organization, and other stakeholders in your domain.
  • Prepare regular briefing decks and ad-hoc analyses that are accurate, well-designed, and tailored to the audience, whether that is a working session with a manager or a readout to senior leadership.
  • Develop SQL on Snowflake to assemble the data needed for your analyses, and partner with the reporting team to operationalize any recurring reports that emerge from your work.
  • Build Tableau dashboards and visualizations where they are the right tool for the job, with a clear bias toward simple, useful, and well-designed over complex or ornamental.
  • Anticipate risk in your own work by routinely asking how does this fail, validating assumptions, and surfacing issues early with options for how to address them.
  • Communicate proactively on progress, blockers, and timelines, and set clear expectations with stakeholders on what you will deliver and when.
  • Contribute to the team's exploration of advanced analytical capabilities, including AI-enabled tools and techniques, and apply them where they add real value.
  • Manage multiple projects and ad-hoc requests in parallel, prioritizing well and aligning your work to organizational priorities.
What You Will Need
  • Experience in a corporate data or analytics setting, ideally in insurance or a comparably regulated, operationally complex industry.
  • Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience working with large datasets, with Snowflake experience preferred.
  • Strong Tableau or PowerBI skills, with the ability to design visualizations that communicate clearly rather than decoratively. Tableau, PowerBI or SQL certification is a plus.
  • Working proficiency in Python for data analysis and the ability to learn new methodologies, databases, and tools quickly.
  • Solid foundation in applied statistics and quantitative reasoning, with the judgment to know when a simple approach is the right approach.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, including the ability to produce briefing materials that look as credible as the analysis behind them.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to distill complex analyses into a clear narrative for non-technical audiences.
  • Intellectual curiosity, sense of urgency, sound judgment, and a genuine passion for the work.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and shift gears in response to changing business needs, while keeping commitments visible and on track.
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach, comfortable owning mistakes, learning from them, and supporting teammates doing the same.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
