OpenMetal is looking for a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead the execution of our technology roadmap and oversee Software Development, Cloud System Engineering, Customer/Solutions/Engineering Support, and Data Center Automation functions.  Though the team you will manage is around 15 people today, it is composed of sharp and hard working engineers that are accomplishing a great amount.

This position will be responsible for bringing facts, vision, and enthusiasm to the company as we modify and improve our strategies. OpenMetal’s strategy is a collaborative process driven by customer needs. We are operating in a start-up environment but have been growing quickly since launching. We’re looking for someone to help position OpenMetal as a leader in bare metal automation and private cloud innovation.

Have a quick question for our leadership?  Connect with our CEO, Todd Robinson on LinkedIn.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Guide architecture and development of our automated bare metal and private cloud platform focusing on continuous improvement and
scalability as it relates to performance, security, and automation capabilities.
  • Lead and mentor high-performing Engineering, Software, Support and Infrastructure teams.
  • Encourage and establish best practices, including leveraging appropriate AI enabled approaches.
  • Identify, prioritize, and implement new features and enhancements to our Private Clouds and Bare Metal.
  • Actively participate in the sales process when dictated by scope, complexity, or scale of a prospect.
  • Oversee implementation of industry standards for data privacy, security, and compliance among technical teams and initiatives.
  • Utilize customer feedback loops to initiate product improvements.
  • Lead from the front/get your hands dirty occasionally.  This is a high growth startup with missing pieces.
Qualifications Needed:
  • Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure and automation is critical.
  • Experience in core technologies including OpenStack and Ceph highly preferred.
  • Proven experience scaling cloud-native platforms including networking, storage, and compute.
  • Dedication to the professional growth of your team and experience successfully managing and scaling Engineering teams in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
  • Experience with API first development principles.
  • Meaningful interest and experience in leveraging AI approaches to accelerate development processes.
  • Strong analytical, creative thinking, project management, and sales experience is required.
  • Advanced project management and organization skills with high attention to detail, process, and alignment with strategic company
    goals.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
