We are seeking a highly capable, trusted Chief of Staff to partner directly with our Chief Technology Officer in leading a rapidly scaling R&D organization. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, execution, and technical delivery — with visibility into our most critical initiatives and the pace to match. You’ll operate in an environment where priorities evolve quickly, expectations are high, and delivering results requires both strategic perspective and a willingness to engage deeply in the work.

To excel, you’ll need the agility to adapt to shifting priorities, the judgment to know when to push and when to pause, and the drive to ensure no critical initiative stalls. The CTO will look to you as an extension of their leadership — anticipating needs, addressing challenges proactively, and ensuring operational excellence without constant direction. This role is for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, finds energy in solving complex problems, and is motivated by seeing tangible results from their efforts.

Why This Role Matters

The Chief of Staff to the CTO is a permanent strategic anchor of our R&D leadership. You will amplify the CTO’s impact, ensure the organization delivers on its most important priorities, and help guide the company as we scale and integrate AI-driven innovation. This role is about driving momentum, clearing the path, and making sure nothing that matters falls through the cracks.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Partnership to the CTO

  • Serve as a right-hand advisor, supporting decision-making and ensuring priorities are translated into actionable plans.

  • Manage confidential information with the highest level of discretion and integrity.

Initiative Leadership

  • Drive the execution of high-priority R&D initiatives, ensuring alignment across engineering, product, and business stakeholders.

  • Roll up your sleeves to remove blockers, coordinate resources, and close execution gaps.

Operational Cadence

  • Manage the planning, review, and reporting cycles for R&D, including quarterly business reviews, roadmap alignment, and sprint cadences.

  • Monitor progress against OKRs and strategic goals, including AI adoption and delivery milestones.

Program & Project Management

  • Oversee cross-functional technical programs, from roadmap development to delivery tracking and risk management.

  • Ensure visibility into progress, dependencies, and risks for both the CTO and leadership team.

AI Strategy & Enablement

  • Partner with engineering and product leadership to bring AI-driven initiatives from concept to launch.

  • Stay current with AI technologies, tools, and industry developments to inform strategy.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 8–10+ years in technology-driven environments, with at least 3 years in a senior strategic, operational, or technical program management role.

  • Proven experience in software, SaaS, or R&D organizations; familiarity with AI/ML projects a plus.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or related field; MBA or technical postgraduate degree preferred.

Technical Competence:

  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, Agile methodologies, and modern engineering tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, GitHub).

  • Working knowledge of AI/ML concepts or a demonstrated commitment to developing expertise.

Core Skills

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to align technical execution with business objectives, and anticipate challenges before they arise.

  • Execution Excellence: Proven track record of delivering complex initiatives on time and to a high standard.

  • Communication & Influence: Exceptional written and verbal skills; able to build consensus across technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Analytical Acumen: Strong ability to interpret data, assess trade-offs, and recommend actionable solutions.

  • Confidentiality & Trust: High integrity in handling sensitive information and navigating executive-level discussions.

  • Adaptability: Comfortable in a dynamic, fast-changing environment with evolving priorities.

Behavioral Traits

  • Hands-on and proactive, with a willingness to step into operational details when necessary.

  • Deep intellectual curiosity, particularly around emerging technologies and AI.

  • Calm under pressure, with a solutions-oriented mindset.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and disciplined in follow-through.

  • Professional presence with the ability to build trust and credibility quickly.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
