MarketPro has partnered with a multi-billion-dollar global leader in corporate payments and expense management in the search for its next Chief Product Officer. This executive will lead the transformation of the company’s Spend Management division into a world-class, software-led platform—combining exceptional scale, proprietary data, broad distribution, and sophisticated payments infrastructure with intuitive customer experiences, rapid innovation, and intelligent automation.

Build the product engine that defines the next era of business spend.

This is an enterprise-level build mandate for a technical, customer-obsessed product executive who can translate ambitious ideas into elegant software, establish a modern product operating model, and enable teams to prototype, learn, and deliver at exceptional speed.

The Opportunity

A multi-billion-dollar, publicly traded global leader in corporate payments and expense management serves hundreds of thousands of business customers worldwide. Strong growth and an accelerating strategic focus on corporate payments and spend management create a highly visible opportunity to combine exceptional scale, proprietary data, broad distribution, and sophisticated payments infrastructure with a best-in-class software experience.

Within the Spend Management division, the company brings commercial cards, accounts payable automation, expense workflows, controls, reconciliation, mobile capabilities, and reporting together across an integrated product portfolio. The next chapter is to unify these capabilities around a modern, AI-powered platform that finance teams and employees genuinely prefer to use.

The Leadership Mandate

Set a category-defining product vision. Create a differentiated, multi-year strategy that anticipates customer needs, establishes new sources of value, and positions the company among the most innovative B2B fintech and spend-management platforms.

Make software experience a competitive advantage. Champion a simple, coherent, and highly intuitive user experience across web and mobile—reducing friction for finance teams, employees, administrators, and partners.

Build a high-velocity product operating model. Establish the rituals, decision rights, architecture partnership, and metrics that enable rapid prototyping, frequent releases, disciplined learning, and reliable delivery.

Embed AI into the product—and the way products are built. Identify practical, high-value applications of AI across automation, controls, reconciliation, insights, fraud prevention, service, and product-development workflows.

Connect product choices to enterprise value. Own a product portfolio and roadmap measured by customer adoption, retention, revenue, margin, speed, and strategic differentiation.

What You Will Own

Define and communicate the end-to-end product vision, strategy, portfolio priorities, and roadmap for the Spend Management division.

Translate customer problems, market shifts, competitive dynamics, and the company’s distinctive assets into focused product bets with clear business cases.

Lead the evolution toward a unified, scalable SaaS platform spanning expense management, commercial cards, accounts payable automation, mobile workflows, controls, and analytics.

Partner deeply with engineering leadership on platform architecture, technical trade offs, delivery capacity, quality, security, and the transition from third-party support to durable internal product-engineering capability.

Create an AI product agenda that improves customer outcomes and operational leverage while applying appropriate governance, data discipline, and risk controls.

Raise the standard for product discovery, design, UX research, experimentation, prototyping, roadmap governance, and release management.

Establish a transparent product scorecard spanning activation, engagement, adoption, retention, customer satisfaction, delivery velocity, quality, revenue contribution, and profitability.

Work across sales, operations, technology, finance, marketing, risk, compliance, and service to ensure product strategy becomes coordinated execution and compelling customer value.

Develop a strong point of view on build, buy, partner, and integrate decisions; contribute product leadership to M&A evaluation and integration where relevant.

Represent the product vision with executive leadership, strategic customers, partners, and the broader market.

Build the Organization

The CPO will inherit a small, capable product team and expand it thoughtfully from approximately 5–7 to 10–15 people. The mandate is to elevate and enable the existing organization while adding the critical product, design, analytics, and technical-product capabilities required for the next stage.

Clarify roles, decision rights, career paths, and standards of excellence across product management, product ownership, design, and product operations.

Recruit builders who combine technical fluency, customer empathy, commercial instinct, and a bias for action.

Create a culture where teams challenge assumptions, combine data with bold judgment, and move from insight to shipped value quickly.

Coach leaders and individual contributors to think beyond incremental features and solve the underlying customer and business problem.

BenefitsThe Executive We Are Seeking

The strongest candidate will bring an engineering-first foundation or deep technical fluency, paired with a record of helping a disruptive B2B software company create new market value and out-innovate established competitors. Relevant backgrounds may include a CPO, Head of Product, product-oriented CTO, former software architect, or engineering leader who has successfully advanced into enterprise product leadership. Experience building exceptional software products, operating with speed, and translating technology into commercial advantage will be central to success.

Experience and Qualifications

Approximately 15+ years of progressive experience across product, software engineering, architecture, or adjacent technical leadership, including significant ownership of enterprise B2B software products.

A record of building or reinventing SaaS platforms with exceptional UI/UX, strong customer adoption, and measurable commercial impact.

Demonstrated success operating in high-growth or disruptive environments where teams prototype rapidly, ship frequently, and learn directly from customer behavior.

Technical depth sufficient to engage credibly on architecture, APIs, data, integrations, platform scalability, security, quality, and engineering tradeoffs.

Practical experience applying AI to customer-facing products and/or the product-development lifecycle; able to separate meaningful value creation from novelty.

Experience scaling product organizations and attracting high-caliber product, design, and technical talent while strengthening an existing team.

Strong business judgment, including the ability to connect roadmap and investment decisions to revenue, retention, economics, customer value, and competitive advantage.

Enterprise product experience involving complex workflows, permissions, controls, integrations, analytics, or regulated environments. Payments or fintech expertise offers added context, while success in disruptive B2B software environments provides the essential foundation.

Leadership Characteristics

Builder’s mindset. Energized by creating the team, operating systems, product strategy, and capabilities required to accelerate growth.

Sharp and unconventional. Forms independent, data-backed points of view and is willing to challenge comfortable assumptions.

Technically credible. Earns the confidence of engineers while keeping technology choices anchored in customer and business outcomes.

Customer obsessed. Looks past feature requests to understand workflows, friction, behavior, and unmet needs.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
