Lead NGL’s product, growth, strategy, team, P&L, and revenue end to end. Scale its viral consumer social platform while preserving authenticity, increasing engagement and retention, and expanding monetization through advertising, subscriptions, and new revenue models. Drive rapid experimentation, global expansion, talent recruitment, and cross-functional collaboration with Mode’s growth, data, and product teams.
The summary above was generated by AI

The Story

This isn’t a “build it from scratch” play. The rocket’s already off the pad. We’re talking about NGL, a viral Gen-Z social platform with 100+ million monthly active users, a raw, unfiltered space where people can be real, curious, and connected.

Recently joined Mode’s rocket-fuel portfolio, this app is already a cultural phenomenon; now it’s time to turn momentum into mastery. The business already generates mid-eight-figure annual revenue, with headroom to grow profitability through subscriptions, ads, global expansion, and new formats. It’s the next evolution of anonymous, authentic connection.

We’re looking for a General Manager who sees the matrix, a product-obsessed builder who can scale something massive without killing its magic. Someone who instinctively understands why people share secrets online, why virality strikes at 2 a.m., and how to turn that energy into a thriving business. You know how to translate engagement into sustainable revenue growth through ad innovation, conversion optimization, and scalable monetization models.

The Mission

Take what’s already winning and make it legendary. Lead this app like it’s your own company, owning strategy, product, growth, and revenue end-to-end. You’ll have full license to move fast, experiment hard, and make the decisions that shape culture.

This Role’s for Someone Who

  • Thinks like a founder, moves like an operator, and executes like a hacker.
  • Thrives on feedback loops over hierarchies.
  • Knows how to turn chaos into compounding growth.
  • You’ll report directly to the CEO, leading a cross-functional crew that’s half startup, half strike team, and scaling one of the most viral platforms into its next phase of dominance.

What You'll Do

  • Own the universe. P&L, team, and strategy, it’s yours.
  • Turn good into unstoppable. Take a thriving app and evolve it into a long-term cultural force.
  • Monetize creatively. Build smarter ad ecosystems, better subscription experiences, and new revenue plays we haven’t dreamed up yet.
  • Identify high-ROI monetization opportunities that increase LTV without compromising user experience and retention.
  • Ship constantly. Hypothesize → test → ship → learn → repeat.
  • Stay dangerously curious. Watch what Gen-Z does next and build ahead of it.
  • Grow the tribe. Recruit top talent, build the culture, protect the weirdness.
  • Scale with soul. Keep the app’s authenticity intact as we expand globally.
  • Be the bridge. Connect your scrappy team with Mode’s shared growth, data, and product firepower.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years running product, growth, or GM roles at viral consumer apps, and social, creator, or messaging DNA required.
  • A proven record of scaling and evolving, not just chasing downloads, but building real engagement.
  • Experience driving monetization strategy, especially across ad-based and subscription-driven models, with measurable impact on revenue and profit.
  • Deep empathy for online communities and the messy beauty of human behavior.
  • Strong instincts backed by data fluency, you love retention curves, funnel drop-offs, and aha-moments.
  • Comfort in ambiguity. Grit under pressure. Confidence without ego.
  • A hunger to lead something that’s already big and make it unforgettable.

What Winning Looks Like

  • More users, more stickiness, more daily love.
  • Revenue climbing in new, creative ways.
  • A fast, fearless team that acts like a startup within a startup.
  • A community that keeps growing while staying authentic, safe, and wildly fun.

TL;DR

You’re not coming in to rescue an app, you’re coming to scale a phenomenon. This is a role for the kind of GM who writes their own playbook, breaks a few, and builds something culture won’t forget. If you’ve ever said, “I could run that app better,”  this is your moment to prove it.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
