About Montauk Capital

Montauk Capital builds and backs companies at the forefront of the Electron Economy, the generational shift towards electrified, intelligent technologies, reshaping industries and driving unprecedented demand for energy.

We shape the category leaders of tomorrow while delivering outsized returns. Our team combines deep investing acumen with decades of operating experience to give founders the strategic clarity and hands-on support that accelerates the building of enduring companies of consequence.

About Outpost

Outpost, a pre-seed stage stealth startup created within Montauk’s venture studio, is building the autonomous infrastructure platform for multi-OEM robotics environments. Today, operators must stitch together separate vendors for power generation and backup, charging, cooling, GPU and edge compute, communications, fleet management, and cybersecurity. The result is complex to deploy, difficult to secure, and costly to operate, particularly across mixed fleets of robots and other autonomous systems.

With global robotics spend forecast to grow from roughly $62B in 2025 to more than $225B by 2034, and humanoid deployments alone projected to exceed $150B in that window, every new fleet will need on-site power, compute, and coordination that no robot maker supplies, an infrastructure layer we estimate at $20–35B.

Outpost brings these layers together in one modular, secure-by-design platform. Pre-engineered, container-sized pods provide energy storage and conversion and AI compute and charges robots, autonomous guided vehicles, and equipment while they remain in use..

Commercial verticals include autonomous warehouses and fulfillment centers, manufacturing sites, mining and energy operations, defense and aerospace, ports and airports, edge AI and robotics campuses, and disaster-response or other remote and temporary environments.

About the CEO & Co-Founder Role

We are seeking a high agency, zero-to-one CEO and co-founder to drive Outpost from technical vision and identified white space into a category-defining company. With pre-seed capital secured, a highly capable CTO in seat, and MVP development underway, the CEO will lead the company as it expands its high-conviction commercial pipeline, develops the roadmap toward deployment, and completes a seed financing.

This is a hands-on company-building role at the intersection of energy, compute, AI, robotics, and secure industrial infrastructure. The CEO will sell the full vision while identifying the most urgent near-term wedge, learning rapidly from customers and external market signals, and making confident decisions without losing sight of Outpost's north star: the modular infrastructure layer that powers autonomous industry.

The right leader will be equally credible with plant and operations leaders, defense and industrial partners, technical teams, investors, and prospective employees. They will pair the judgment and playbook of a proven operator with the obsession, resilience, and velocity of an early stage founder / CEO who recognizes the massive opportunity here.

What You’ll Do

• Set the north star and market entry strategy. Define Outpost's category, positioning, and initial beachhead while preserving a platform vision that can expand across industrial and defense markets.

• Commercialize and deploy the platform. Partner with the CTO to take Outpost from concept to MVP, pilots, and repeatable deployments, translating complex hardware, energy, compute, and AI capabilities into clear customer value.

• Build the customer pipeline. Develop relationships with industrial manufacturers, warehouse and logistics operators, defense and aerospace organizations, and ecosystem partners; secure design partners, pilots, strategic partnerships, and early revenue.

• Create Outpost’s narrative. Engage customers, talent, investors, suppliers, OEMs, and commercial partners around both Outpost's immediate value proposition and its long-term role in autonomous industry.

• Lead future financing rounds. Develop the fundraising narrative, milestones, operating plan, and investor process required to capitalize the company for its next stage, partnering closely with Montauk Capital for support and to leverage its investor network.

• Build the founding organization. Recruit and inspire a top-tier team, leveraging Montauk’s support and network, and establish a culture that .

• Own the business end to end. Lead strategy, product and commercial prioritization, partnerships, fundraising, operations, and company-building while creating the systems needed to scale.

What You’ll Bring

• Proven hard-tech commercialization. A track record of building, launching, and scaling innovative hardware-enabled or AI-enabled products deployed in industrial, manufacturing, robotics, autonomy, energy, compute, or defense environments.

• GM-level operating leadership. Experience owning a business, product line, market, or major initiative from strategy through execution, with measurable commercial outcomes. Founder, GM, business unit leader, or early-stage operating experience is highly relevant.

• Zero-to-one company-building ability. Comfort operating before the answers are known: validating the market, narrowing the wedge, shaping product, winning first customers, raising capital, and recruiting a foundational team.

• Industrial customer connectivity. A deep network among buyers and partners in industrial manufacturing, assembly, warehouse automation, logistics, energy, or adjacent sectors. Defense exposure and relationships are valuable but not required.

• Technical and systems fluency. A strong understanding of how energy, power systems, edge compute, AI, robotics and autonomy come together in real-world deployments

• Exceptional commercial storytelling. The ability to make a complex technical platform intuitive, urgent, and investable for customers, strategic partners, investors, and prospective talent.

• Relevant operating environments. Experience in forward-looking industrial and defense technology businesses deploying robotics and ambitious platforms into complex physical operations.

Founders come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. If this is a problem you’re passionate about solving, we’d still love to hear from you.

Why Join Us

• Build the foundation of autonomous industry. Create the infrastructure layer that enables mixed fleets of robots and autonomous systems to operate continuously, securely, and at scale.

• Enter at true company formation. Shape the product, market, culture, and category alongside a strong CTO, with pre-seed funding secured and an MVP already moving forward.

• Solve an urgent physical-world problem. Replace fragmented infrastructure and charging downtime with a modular platform designed for continuous operations and rapid expansion.

• Leverage studio support. Access Montauk Capital's resources, network, and company-building expertise during the most formative stage of the business.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
