The Head of Data is responsible for building and leading a data analytics team, ensuring a data-first culture at Headway, tracking KPIs, and partnering with various teams across the organization.

Since 2018, Wisetack has been building transparent and intuitive consumer lending products that help service-based businesses thrive (think HVAC companies, veterinarians, or auto repair shops).

Our leadership team comes from top fintech companies such as Lending Club, Affirm, and Varo Money. And we’re backed by leading VCs, including Insight Partners, Greylock, and Bain Capital Ventures (investors in Airbnb, LinkedIn, Instagram, Dropbox, and more).

Having raised $84M, we’re a well-funded startup and have invested in people and technology while growing our partnerships — responsibly.

We’re also proud to have received recognition from the fintech world. Awards we’ve won include:

  • 2023 Best Consumer Lending Program by Tearsheet
  • 2023 Best Point of Sale Product by Fintech Breakthrough
  • 2022 Best Consumer Lending Solution by Finovate
  • 2022 Best Emerging Lending Platform by Lendit (now Fintech Nexus)

But what you’ll find us gleaming about the most is the recognition from our own customers, particularly our sky-high NPS rating of 79. (For reference, the average score is 44 for financial services and 36 for SaaS companies.)

As a result of our efforts in building this healthy company culture, we’ve been nominated to several Great Places to Work lists, such as Best Small Workplaces, Best Workplaces in the Bay Area, and Best Workplaces in Financial Services & Insurance.

Like any startup, we’re in it for the long haul, and we’re looking for people willing to join our journey of building something special together.

This process starts with our company values, which guide us in everything we do — and have played a critical role in our success. We valiantly abide by them, and would expect you to do the same:

  • Put customers first (that’s our M.O.)
  • Act fast (leverage our startup environment).
  • Lead the way (show and tell).
  • Take ownership (everyone is hands-on here).
  • Be a good human (no egos, build financial products that do right by people).

The Role

The finance team at Wisetack plays an essential role in making decisions and managing the company’s performance. We’re also at the forefront of sourcing capital. We influence the company’s strategy and operations, not just “keep score.” Wisetack is a fast-growing business and you’ll enter a dynamic finance team that always has something new happening, unique challenges to think through, and professional growth opportunities.

The capital markets function handles all facets of relationships with loan capital providers, including our partner banks and forward flow loan buyers. As a rapidly-scaling financing platform, we’re constantly in conversations with existing and prospective capital providers.

In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of analytics that progress conversations into term sheets and partnerships, as well as help maintain and deepen capital relationships. You will also work closely with the broader finance team to continuously refine our loan portfolio analytics. We are seeking an individual with strong analytical acumen and knowledge of structured / asset-backed finance. This role offers significant growth potential in asset finance analytics and corporate finance, with front-end exposure to leading capital players in the market.

Responsibilities

  • Be a critical part of all facets of capital markets transactions.
  • Provide reporting, relationship management, and analytics support for all existing capital partnerships.
  • Provide loan performance analysis and ideas to optimize Wisetack’s asset returns, loan inventory and capital allocation.
  • Build, refine, and own product-level IRR models.
  • Partner with strategic finance and treasury to develop portfolio cash models that will roll into our corporate model.
  • Partner with accounting and treasury to maintain loan fair value models.
  • Assist with stakeholder engagement activities, including partner meetings, calls, and events.
  • Consult with credit risk analytics to set product-level prices.
  • Assist with our annual planning and quarterly re-forecasting processes.
  • Support the business by handling a variety of ad hoc requests

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in ABS capital markets, loan portfolio analytics, consumer finance industry, strategic finance, or a closely related role required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in finance, business, or a quantitative discipline
  • Advanced analytical acumen required - Advanced Excel skills and direct experience working with large data sets.
  • SQL programming abilities.
  • Direct experience with loan portfolio modeling.
  • Strong partnership skills and an ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Self-directed and self-motivated with an ability to work independently and handle ambiguity.

Bonus points

  • Experience in earlier-stage / startup environments helpful
  • More advanced programming abilities (Python, VBA) helpful
  • Experience with data visualization tools (i.e. Tableau) a plus

Conclusion

The range of base salary for the position is between $120,800- $169,100, plus equity, and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level and competencies.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
