We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Canadian Tax & E-commerce Launch Consultant to lead the development and execution of our tax and compliance strategy for our upcoming expansion into the Canadian market via Amazon.ca. This contract role will involve close collaboration with our Canadian tax firm and internal teams to ensure a smooth and compliant launch.
As the Canadian Tax & E-commerce Launch Consultant, you will:
- Advise on Canadian indirect tax implications of selling through Amazon.ca, including GST/HST/PST requirements.
- Provide strategic guidance on Marketplace Facilitator Rules in Canada and their application to Amazon.
- Determine Eko’s tax obligations based on marketplace, product type, and fulfillment method (e.g., Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA)).
- Guide the company through the registration process for any required Canadian tax accounts.
- Partner with Avalara or similar tax platforms to ensure proper integration and configuration.
- Ensure proper integration and configuration with NetSuite.
- Develop a tax remittance and reporting strategy tailored to Canadian regulatory requirements.
- Serve as the internal lead and primary liaison with our Canadian tax firm during the launch process.
- Provide strategic advice on importation requirements, tax nexus considerations, and related customs implications.
- Create a clear, scalable tax compliance playbook for ongoing operations in Canada.
As the Canadian Tax & E-commerce Launch Consultant, you have:
- 7+ years of experience in Canadian indirect tax and e-commerce.
- Deep understanding of marketplace facilitator laws in Canada, especially as they relate to Amazon.
- Familiarity with Avalara or similar tax automation tools and how they interface with Amazon and accounting systems.
- Experience advising U.S.-based companies launching into Canada.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex tax rules into actionable business steps.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, scaling startup environment.
- CPA designation or equivalent Canadian tax certification preferred
As Tax & E-commerce Launch Consultant at Eko, Key Competencies:
- Experience with Amazon FBA in Canada, including logistics and tax considerations.
- Background working with medical devices or regulated health products in cross-border e-commerce.
- Knowledge of U.S.-Canada tax treaties and transfer pricing implications.
