About the Role
As a Buyer, you will be responsible for delivering an on-trend product assortment and ensuring your category is achieving global sales and margin targets. In addition to creating and developing business strategies and seasonal assortment plans in line with strategies set by the Merchandise Manager & Vice President of Merchandising. You will identify category opportunities and recommend new products or concepts for your department. You will also coordinate information across functions working closely with Product Development, Replenishment & Planning, Marketing, Vendor Compliance, Site Merchandising, Warehouse Ops, and Finance.

This is a 6 month contract position commencing in June 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Hit category KPI’s and budget targets. Drive growth by developing assortment strategies for your category factoring in breadth vs depth, newness, and pricing/margin.
  • Review sales performance to identify potential reorders and recommend styles for markdowns. Identify and purchase new & replenishment styles under the direction of the Merchandise Manager & VP of Merchandising.
  • Source, develop, and select assortment to build a range that is commercially strong, regionally specific, and relevant to our customer.
  • Utilize supplier base and core competencies when determining optimal assortment range for your category and region. 
  • Ensure completion of required administrative tasks related to buying when needed. Examples include (writing purchase orders, new item set-up, pricing worksheets, style attribution & season coding,  and third-party item setup).
  • Analyze weekly & monthly sales, stock, and on-order with the goal of optimizing sales and minimizing markdowns.
  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of assortment on all third-party channels. Inclusive of promotional needs for 3rd party.
  • Analyse sales in-season and post-season (hindsight) to identify hits and misses for your category. Utilise learnings to revise in-season and future-season actions, strategies, and assortments. 
  • Identify and analyze new trends/styles, their relevance, and sales potential. 
  • Manage OTB within defined categories with help from a replenishment/ Head of Planning & Replenishment.
  • Assess your product range for gaps and opportunities and create action plans to fill voids.
  • Work with the Product Development team on building exclusive products for your category, as well as managing the fit of exclusive products.
  • Monitor category return rates and customer reviews/feedback to help improve assortment offering, fit, and quality while lowering overall return rates.
  • Analyze the competition reporting on competitors (online and in-store, domestic and international) for stock, pricing, styling, and overall range. Participate in Quarterly Comp shopping trips.
  • Research the competition, all social media platforms, and markets to identify emerging trends, categories, and promotional campaign opportunities.
  • Price products to optimize demand through evaluation of product cost, sell-through, margin, and other factors.
  • Curate Collections, Capsules and Events by selecting product assortment and determining best presentation. Utilize data regarding past product and event performance to inform decisions regarding assortment.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, while negotiating buying terms with vendors (price, quantity, delivery).
  • Oversee & monitor  the management of product deliveries, inclusive of  late deliveries, incorrect/partial deliveries, and incorrect invoices. 
  • Actively search for new products and brands that align with the Petal & Pup customer, aesthetic, and business strategy.
  • Maintain flow of launched products by hitting quarterly newness targets and ensuring all new products meet go live expectations.
