The Team: 

Upstart’s Procurement team is a new function and we are in the process of building the team. The team will be responsible for developing policies/processes, negotiating deals that provide goods/services at the best possible price, implementing tools and systems that will aid in the automation of the procurement function, and collaborating with various teams to minimize third party risk. 

As the Buyer at Upstart, you will  have responsibility for guiding users through the Procure- to-Order (P2O) process and ensure that all controls are followed resulting in minimal risk while ensuring a great customer experience. 


How you’ll make an impact

  • First line of support for end users in the Procure-to-Order process.  This involves guiding end users through intake, providing training, and fielding questions.
  • Monitor requests entered by users to ensure requests are moving towards closure, collaborating with SME groups on stale requests, communicating with end users and escalating to management where necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and procedures for all purchases
  • Maintain and support new and legacy data included in Procurement’s database
  • Process and manage POs through Procurement Systems
  • Report on Metrics (Monthly and Quarterly)
  • Create dashboards and swim lane process flow documentation
  • Conduct pricing negotiations for low risk purchases
  • Knowledge  of contract terms to ensure  terms and conditions are accurately reflected in POs
  • Supports the company’s Supplier Diversity initiatives and maintains database of qualified diverse suppliers
  • Manages Docusign requests for execution of agreements
  • Collaborate  cross- functionally with legal, finance, operations and business units to ensure end-to end alignment on sourcing and contracting activities 

What we’re looking for:

Minimum Qualifications 

  • 3-4 years prior experience within an indirect procurement function
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, hyper-growth environment
  • Team player and self-starter with a can-do attitude
  • Prior experience working as a Buyer in a Procure-to-Pay platform(s)
  • Detailed orientation and ability to execute
  • Ability to work and collaborate across all levels
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and/or GSuite applications
  • Working knowledge of contract management systems
  • Analytical skills and ability to interpret information from various sources
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written form

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, Business, Supply Chain or equivalent line of business
  • 3-5 years in an indirect procurement function
  • Hands-on experience with ZIP Procurement Intake, supporting procurement workflows, intake automation, and change order processing across cross-functional teams

Position location This role is available in the following locations: Remote 

Time zone requirements The team operates on the East/West coast time zones. 

Travel requirements As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package.  The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

In addition, Upstart provides employees with target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k).
