About Nominal
Nominal is building the connected test and operations platform powering the world's most advanced hardware systems, from spacecraft and autonomous vehicles to next-generation defense programs. Our platform gives hardware engineering teams a single place to ingest data, analyze performance, automate test execution, and collaborate across every phase of development, so they can move faster without sacrificing safety or precision. We're a fast-moving team that owns problems end-to-end, works across disciplines, and thrives at the intersection of hardware and software.

We serve top-tier commercial and defense customers, from autonomy leaders like Anduril and Shield AI to next-generation aerospace teams like Hermeus and REGENT, and performance engineering teams like Pratt Miller Motorsports, alongside mission partners within the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force on programs where failure isn’t an option. We’re backed by Sequoia, General Catalyst, Founders Fund, Lux Capital, and Lightspeed. Our team draws from SpaceX, Palantir, Anduril, Applied Intuition, and other leading companies, united by a common mission: giving hardware engineers the tools to build the future with speed, safety, and confidence.

Our Mission Operations team is on the front lines with customers: deploying Nominal's platform, training engineering teams, and ensuring our technology delivers real outcomes in high-stakes environments. We're looking for someone to be the operational and analytical backbone of the Mission team. You'll work directly with Mission leadership to build the systems that help us scale, track performance across accounts, and ensure the team is always focused on what matters most. This is a high-visibility role with real insight into how we deliver for customers, building rockets, aircraft, and autonomous systems.

🚀 What you'll do
  • Ensure coverage across our customers: Track account allocation and help match the right people and skills to our right customer’s needs.
  • Drive visibility into team and account performance: Partner with Finance on account-based unit economics. Pull product metrics, build dashboards, and work on customer health scoring. Drive the quarterly goal-setting process for the Mission team.
  • Create leverage for the team: Set up integrations and automations between our CRM, business productivity tools, comms channels, and more. Develop scalable approaches to aggregate customer feedback into product themes and surface insights to Sales when usage patterns or customer signals should inform our sales motion.
  • Be the connective tissue between Mission and the rest of the company: Build enablement materials that help Sales partner with Mission effectively. Coordinate cross-functional inputs and ensure information flows where it needs to go.
  • Improve how we work: Identify opportunities to procure new tools or partner with engineering to build internal solutions that improve team productivity.

🎯 We’re looking for someone with
  • 2+ years of experience operating in a fast-paced environment (e.g., consulting, startup, military), ideally with an engineering or technical background
  • Systems thinker with strong attention to detail who can connect the dots across accounts, teams, and priorities
  • Process builder who can create scalable SOPs for teamwide ease & adoption
  • High EQ and a clear communicator who can work across teams without close oversight and who effectively understands and responds to the pulse of the org
  • Travel ready: up to 25% travel, including across offices and occasionally to support customers onsite
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. TS Clearance

🌟 Skills that supercharge us
  • Engineering degree or technical experience at a hardware company or startup
  • Comfortable writing simple Python scripts and SQL queries to pull metrics, analyze customer usage, and automate workflows
  • Excellent writing skills with an ability to translate ambiguous thoughts and ideas into concrete documentation
  • Military service background is a plus

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
