About OuterSignal

We are building the customer intelligence layer for commerce. Brands know when an order comes in, but they only see ~5% of the real story. We show them the other 95%: not just who bought, but who that person is — the execs, influencers, journalists, retail buyers, investors, and everyday customers who become a brand's best evangelists. Our platform enriches every order in real time with professional and personal signals, builds personas, and powers everything from surprise-and-delight outreach to smarter email flows, analytics, and BD leads. We're a small, high-performing team building the category-defining platform for e-commerce customer intelligence, backed by a world-class investor base.

About the Role

We're looking for a Business Operations Manager with high agency and a rigorous, analytical mindset to be the right hand to our VP of Operations. The role is fully remote, open to candidates anywhere in the US, with substantial overlap with Eastern hours.

This is a generalist seat, not a role scoped to a single function. You'll own and manage daily operations across HR, finance, and administrative functions, act as the glue across the organization, and rotate onto whatever matters most that quarter. One week you might be rebuilding the reporting leadership uses to run the business; the next you're standing up SOC 2 from scratch, integrating our recent acquisition, or turning around the security review that unblocks an enterprise deal.

This role is built for someone who wants breadth over narrow specialization, who is energized by picking up a new problem every quarter, and who would rather build their own tools than wait for someone else to build them. The right person grows into owning an operational area of the company outright.

What You'll Do

Priority projects

  • Serve as a flexible operator across the company's most important operational priorities as they emerge, and own each workstream end to end — define the scope, build the plan, execute, and report the outcome with minimal oversight

AI and automation

  • Find the repetitive work across operations and automate it with AI tools, scripts, or no-code platforms. Build internal tools that change how the team works — we'd rather you build the thing than do the thing twice

Day-to-day operations

  • Own the agreements that make things official — draft, route, and track offer letters, contractor and vendor agreements, NDAs, and amendments through e-signature, and keep the executed records findable

  • Own onboarding and offboarding end to end, so a new hire's first week feels like they joined a company that has its act together

  • Help us hire the world-class team. You'll be involved in cross-functional interviews and applicant tracking

  • Own basic payroll and benefits administration, keep the HRIS accurate, and coordinate with our part-time HR resource where gaps exist. Bonus points if you've worked in Rippling before

  • Keep the rhythm of the business — run the operating cadence, capture decisions, chase every action item to done, and support all-hands and offsites

Analysis and reporting

  • Define the operational metrics that matter and build the dashboards and reporting cadences in Notion that give leadership real-time visibility

  • Reconcile the numbers across our systems so the company makes decisions from one version of the truth, and propose the fix wherever a process is breaking down

Compliance and enterprise trust

  • Own the security questionnaires, vendor reviews, and data processing agreements that unblock our largest enterprise deals, and drive our SOC 2 certification — auditor, evidence, and schedule

You Might Be a Strong Fit If You
  • Have 3+ years in a generalist operations role, business operations, strategy and operations, or program management — ideally at a fast-scaling or early-stage company

  • Have owned ambiguous projects end to end with minimal supervision, and move seamlessly between strategy and execution

  • Use AI tools hands-on to make yourself and your team faster — and can show us what you've built

  • Are analytical: comfortable building a metrics framework and a dashboard, then using both to drive a decision

  • Write clearly and directly, and collaborate easily across Engineering, Finance, Sales, and customer-facing teams

  • Bonus, none required: people ops experience, SOC 2 or security questionnaire work, e-commerce or SaaS exposure

Why This Role
  • Exposure to nearly every part of the business — compliance, hiring, reporting, and company planning — in a single seat

  • Build real tools and automations that change how the company works, rather than executing someone else's playbook

  • Work directly with the VP of Operations, with a clear path to owning an operational area of the company outright

  • Meaningful equity in a venture-backed company defining a new SaaS category, at a stage where your work materially shapes the trajectory

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
