Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and technically oriented Business Development Manager to support growth of our adsorbents business, with primary responsibility for MetSorb® products across municipal and industrial water treatment markets throughout North America.
This position plays a key role in driving commercial growth while serving as the primary interface between customers, channel partners, engineering firms, regulators, and internal teams. The Business Development Manager will identify and develop new business opportunities, support existing customers and distributors, provide market intelligence, and collaborate closely with Operations, R&D, Quality, and Product Management teams to support successful commercialization and growth initiatives.
The ideal candidate combines strong business development skills with technical aptitude, relationship-building capabilities, and a passion for solving customer challenges in the water treatment industry.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Commercial Growth
- Develop and execute growth strategies for MetSorb® products across municipal drinking water, industrial water, wastewater, and emerging treatment applications.
- Identify, qualify, and secure new project opportunities through direct customer engagement and channel partners.
- Expand and support distributor, dealer, OEM, and engineering consultant relationships.
- Maintain an active project pipeline and provide regular opportunity updates and forecasts.
- Support pricing, contract negotiations, and commercial agreements.
- Achieve annual revenue and profitability objectives.
- Comfortable with travel throughout USA and Canada, typically up to 40–50%, based on customer, distributor, and industry event needs.
Customer & Technical Support
- Serve as a technical and commercial resource for customers, distributors, and consulting engineers.
- Support municipal project development, including consultant engagement, bid/specification review, proposal support, and coordination of project-specific commercial requirements.
- Conduct customer training sessions on product applications, performance expectations, and system operation.
- Support troubleshooting efforts and provide guidance on media selection and application suitability.
- Assist in development of technical literature, presentations, case studies, and customer-facing materials.
- Represent the company during customer visits, pilot programs, and project startups as required.
Market Development & Industry Engagement
- Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and emerging contaminants impacting water treatment.
- Identify opportunities created by changing regulations and evolving treatment requirements.
- Represent the company at industry associations, conferences, trade shows, and technical committees.
- Deliver technical presentations and support conference speaking opportunities.
- Develop relationships with regulators, industry organizations, consultants, and key opinion leaders.
Innovation & Product Development Support
- Provide market intelligence and customer feedback to R&D and Product Management teams.
- Support evaluation and commercialization of new products and applications.
- Assist in identifying customer sites and partners for pilot studies and field demonstrations.
- Participate in cross-functional activities supporting new product launches.
Sales & Operations Planning
- Provide demand forecasts and market intelligence to support production planning and inventory management.
- Participate in Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) activities.
- Coordinate closely with Operations and Supply Chain teams to ensure customers receive timely support.
- Maintain CRM and forecasting tools with current opportunity information.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety, quality, and ethical business practices.
- Ensure compliance with applicable company policies and industry regulations.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related technical field preferred.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in water treatment, environmental technologies, filtration, adsorbents, separation technologies, specialty chemicals, or related industrial markets.
- Experience working with municipal water treatment projects preferred.
- Demonstrated success in business development, technical sales, account management, or market development roles.
Technical Skills
- Understanding of water treatment technologies and regulatory drivers.
- Experience working with consulting engineers, municipalities, utilities, OEMs, or industrial customers.
- Ability to interpret technical data and communicate complex information to varied audiences.
- Familiarity with CRM systems (Microsoft Dynamics preferred), forecasting tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
Soft Skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Strong problem-solving and project management capabilities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across functions.
- Self-motivated, organized, and results-oriented.
- Comfortable with frequent travel throughout North America.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with adsorption technologies, activated carbon, ion exchange, filtration media, or other water treatment technologies.
- Existing relationships within municipal drinking water, wastewater, industrial water, engineering consulting, or regulatory communities.
- Experience presenting at industry conferences or participating in technical committees.
- Knowledge of drinking water regulations, treatment standards, and emerging contaminant issues.
- Experience managing pilot studies and field demonstrations.
Pay Range:
