As the Business Development Lead, Marketplace, you’ll is responsible for developing and executing strategies to build and expand our dealer pipeline, focusing on increasing dealer engagement and lot submissions for our digital marketplace. You’ll bring your deep understanding of the automotive industry, strong relationship-building skills, and a track record of driving revenue through dealer acquisition and engagement to enhance our exciting, rapidly growing business.

What you’ll do

Dealer Acquisition & Pipeline Development:

  • Identify and engage with high-potential dealers, building long-term relationships that lead to consistent lot submissions.
  • Develop strategies to attract new dealers to the platform, expanding our marketplace offerings, and driving growth.
  • Build and maintain a robust dealer pipeline, utilizing CRM tools and data insights to track dealer engagement and submissions.

Dealer Engagement & Retention:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for dealers, offering support, guidance, and tailored solutions to ensure they effectively use the platform.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (operations, marketing, product) to enhance dealer experience and optimize the submission process.
  • Develop and implement retention strategies to keep dealers actively submitting lots and engaged with the platform.
  • Conduct regular business and performance reviews with dealers while disseminating insights to cross functional stakeholders.

Market Insights & Strategy:

  • Stay informed on industry trends, competitor platforms, and dealer needs to adapt strategies and ensure Hagerty remains a top choice for dealers.
  • Utilize data-driven insights to refine outreach strategies, measure success, and optimize the dealer acquisition process.

Merchandising & Vehicle Valuation:

  • Collaborate with dealers to ensure accurate vehicle descriptions, high-quality images, and compelling listings that align with Hagerty’s marketplace standards.
  • Assist in valuating vehicles, ensuring that pricing reflects market trends, dealer input, and Hagerty's valuation guidelines.
  • Monitor the performance of listings to ensure they are competitive, optimizing the presentation of vehicles on the platform to maximize buyer interest.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with product and marketing teams to ensure dealer needs are met and platform enhancements align with dealer feedback.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to drive dealer engagement and ensure consistency across outreach efforts.

This might describe you

  • Strong experience in dealerships, dealer relations, sales, or business development, preferably in the automotive or digital marketplace space.
  • Proven track record of building and managing successful relationships that lead to increased engagement and revenue.
  • Enthusiasm, appetite and proven experience in business development and client acquisition
  • Strong relationship management and team building skills; views team concept as critical to model.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketplaces, online auctions, and the automotive industry.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience in merchandising and vehicle valuation, with an understanding of market pricing dynamics.
  • Experience in content creation, copywriting, or editorial work is a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with photography and visual presentation best practices.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience using CRM tools, analytics platforms, and performance metrics to guide decision-making.
  • Improve work practices by recommending adjustments to existing systems and processes
  • Proven ability to navigate day-to-day problems with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to follow market trends and inform the team on obstacles as well as opportunities
  • Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and marketing automation tools.

  • This position can be worked as a remote position within the United States.
  • Familiarity with public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable. For SOX compliant roles, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting internal controls where they have been identified as owners to prevent errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations. Including attestation to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all financial reporting data, where applicable.
