Skydio is the leading US drone company and the world leader in autonomous flight, the key technology for the future of drones and aerial mobility. The Skydio team combines deep expertise in artificial intelligence, best-in-class hardware and software product development, operational excellence, and customer obsession to empower a broader, more diverse audience of drone users, from utility inspectors to first responders, soldiers in battlefield scenarios and beyond.

About the role:
Skydio is seeking a senior, customer-facing Business Development Lead to serve as the Dock Subject Matter Expert (SME) for U.S. Government customers. This role carries clear ownership for driving business outcomes by landing and expanding strategic accounts. The BD Lead will be responsible for identifying, shaping, and winning key Programs of Record, engaging strategic customers, and accelerating the adoption of Skydio Dock–enabled remote operations across the U.S. Government.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned business development leader with the ability to leverage an established network across the U.S. Government to influence outcomes at senior levels. This individual will engage in high-level discussions with Chief Information Officers (CIOs), Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), and other executive stakeholders, articulating Skydio’s approach to networking, data security, and secure system architectures. The role requires credibility in conversations around secure cloud and on-premise deployments, accreditation pathways, and data protection requirements for mission-critical operations.

This position plays a central role in navigating government funding environments—identifying existing sources of funding, aligning Skydio’s value proposition to established programs and mission priorities, and working with customers and internal stakeholders to develop new funding pathways where required. The BD Lead will position Skydio solutions within long-term acquisition strategies, with the objective of institutionalizing them as enduring capabilities and Programs of Record.

In addition to direct customer engagement, this role will serve as a thought leader within the U.S. Government ecosystem—building credibility with senior decision-makers, influencing operational concepts and acquisition strategies related to remote operations, and representing Skydio in strategic forums. The BD Lead will clearly articulate the ROI of remotely operated autonomous systems for security, emergency response, and inspection missions, helping government customers transition from experimentation to scaled, secure, and programmatic adoption.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
