The Business Development Director will lead efforts in building a pipeline for new business, fostering client relationships, and structuring integrated energy and sustainability offerings. Responsibilities include sales strategy development, contract negotiation, communication with prospects, and coordination with internal resources and operations.

Position Overview
Trio is seeking to expand its consultative sales team with sustainability and energy advisory specialists. This role will be responsible for presenting and structuring comprehensive and integrated sustainability and energy offerings, working with client internal decision-makers and orchestrating Trio’s internal resources to bring strategic service offerings to our clients. The primary function of this roll will be to create and implement new growth and sales strategies aimed at penetrating new clients and determine ways to expand relationships with existing clients.
Primary Responsibilities
- Build new business pipeline
- Develop target client list and build connections with prospects
- Determine best method/tools to obtain prospect list
- Determine best method/tools to find the appropriate contact within the prospect’s organization
- Understand existing arrangements and pain points
- Foster relationship with prospects
- Create strategy for regular and meaningful communication with prospects establishing trust and credibility in our market
- Track progress within CRM system
- Coordinate with Sales Operations to manage client proposals
- Work with Service Line leaders to prepare pricing and negotiate new client contracts
- Increase market presence via attendance of relevant conferences, meetings and industry events
- Communicate new products and leverage existing collateral with target clients
- Stay up to date on our marketplace and competition
- Educate prospects about Trio’s capabilities including advisory on renewables, conventional power and gas procurement, sustainability, demand, installation, and transportation electrification.
- Serve as the primary resource for Trio sales and internal communication/education
Requirements
- 5+ years energy experience in a field such as origination, consulting, engineering, trading, procurement or utility management
- Strong commercial negotiation skills, ability to review contracts and identify key commercial terms
- Demonstrated track record of success selling to large Commercial & Industrial companies
- Commitment to teamwork
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
