About the Role
The Business Analyst keeps leadership equipped with accurate reporting and clear visibility into the company's compliance deadlines and purchasing activity. You'll own our recurring reporting cadence, track key deadlines — lender reports, property taxes, permits, and licenses — manage the purchasing function, and serve as a cross-trained backup for the accounting team when someone is out.
We're looking for someone analytical and detail-driven who moves with urgency, stays organized across multiple deadlines, and is comfortable using SQL and AI tools to turn raw data into clear, actionable insight.
What You Will Do
  • Own the company's weekly, monthly, and annual reporting cadence, refining its structure as the business evolves
  • Standardize formats so reports are consistent, repeatable, and easy for leadership to interpret
  • Build efficient, semi-automated reporting workflows using SQL, spreadsheets, and AI tools to cut down manual effort
  • Track lender reporting requirements, property tax deadlines, and permit/license renewals across the portfolio
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready records for all lender, tax, permit, and licensing activity
  • Proactively flag upcoming deadlines and risks to leadership with enough lead time to act
  • Run the company's purchasing process end-to-end, and continuously improve it
  • Build dashboards and analytics that track spend, vendor performance, order timing, and budget variance
  • Serve as the point person for sourcing and vendor negotiation, including hands-on appliance purchasing when needed
  • Evaluate vendor pricing and purchasing patterns to find cost-saving opportunities and standardize how we buy
  • Cover for accounting team members during leave, PTO, or other absences (prior accounting experience isn't required — we'll train you)
What You Will Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (BBA)
  • Coursework or hands-on experience in database management
  • 1–3 years of professional work experience
  • Real estate experience preferred
  • Prior experience in an analyst role preferred
  • SQL skills — queries, reporting, and analysis
  • Strong Excel / spreadsheet skills
  • Comfortable using AI tools for analysis and reporting
  • Strong analytical mindset with sharp attention to detail
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with a sense of urgency
  • Clear written and verbal communicator
  • Self-starter who takes ownership with minimal supervision
  • Purchasing or property management software experience a plus
Work Environment
In-person at our La Jolla headquarters, during standard business hours.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
