Job Description

Start Date: September 14, 2026

Length: 6 months

Weekly Hours: 32- 40

Hourly Rate: $100

Location: Geo-specific- must reside in NY or NJ/ SF/ or LA

The client is looking for a Brand Manager who has experience in creative direction- specifically in copywriting- who will sit on the creative pod and work closely with the client's creative agencies to get top-tier work out the door. They'll oversee both performance-driven campaigns (DR, bottom-of-funnel) and brand-creation campaigns (mid-funnel, demand-generating). If they have a stronger suit between the two, we'd love for it to lean toward brand and demand creation, since that's where this business is investing right now. The ideal person for this role is a person who has a brand manager and creative interest background, but also worked at the early stages of major companies that were previously startups like Hinge, Uber, and Airbnb.  What is also great is if you have an interest in AI and a subscription background.

What You'll Do

  • Take a product brief and turn it into a strong creative brief the agency can run with
  • Guide and shape creative work, including giving feedback on design and jumping in to help with a line of copy when needed to get something over the line
  • Manage agency relationships and hold the bar for top tier creative
  • Balance performance marketing priorities with the need to build brand awareness for a challenger product going up against major national carriers
  • Support the client's broader subscription and AI initiatives as the role evolves

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in brand management, marketing, or a related field
  • Must have this when you apply.  A portfolio website is ideal, but if they don't have one, please include 2 to 3 links directly to relevant campaign work so we can see the actual work, not just a description of it. Work samples are okay if you don't have a portfolio.
  • Experience guiding an agency and giving creative feedback rather than producing the creative yourself
  • Comfortable being hands-on when needed. Think pseudo project manager who lives and breathes brand and creative
  • Experience at a scaling tech company (early Uber, Airbnb, Hinge type stage) rather than only established big tech, since this business operates scrappy without a Super Bowl budget
  • Has worked both agency side and client side. Agency experience is a plus, but client side experience is required
  • Creative taste can lean more design or more copy, but ideally this person can jump in and give feedback or a line on either side. We lean slightly toward design instincts
  • Genuine enthusiasm for great creative work. The kind of person who's geeking out over the latest standout campaign
  • Mobile experience is a nice to have, not a requirement
  • Subscription or tech background is a bonus
  • Interest in AI is a plus. Deep AI background is not required or expected

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
