Who We Are

🏔Product: TLDR’s mission is to increase tech's signal-to-noise ratio.

Today that means the largest network of tech newsletters in the world, with over 8M subscribers covering startups, software engineering, AI, cybersecurity, product, and more. What makes it work is who writes it. Every issue comes from people building in tech, not reporters covering it. Our writers keep their day jobs: two engineers at Coinbase write TLDR Crypto, engineers at DeepMind and Meta write TLDR Dev, researchers at Anthropic and Adobe write TLDR AI, and robotics and datacenter strategy leads at OpenAI and Meta write TLDR Hardware.

If it matters in tech, it's in TLDR. That's what makes TLDR the best place to find what you need to learn.

💪Team: Our 31-person full-time team includes alumni of TikTok, Reddit, Amazon, Business Insider, Asana, Morning Brew, and Pinterest. We've stayed intentionally small, which means every person here owns a function rather than a slice of one.

📈Traction: We're bootstrapped, profitable, and on track for $35M in revenue this year - after $9M in 2024 and $20M in 2025. The advertisers who fund it want tech's decision-makers: AWS, Google Cloud, Anthropic, Slack, Notion, and GitHub.

About the Role

Every week, TLDR reaches millions of technical and business readers by distilling the industry’s news into something worth reading. We’ve built real authority, but we haven’t yet built a content engine that puts TLDR’s own data, insights, and perspective front and center.

As our Brand & Editorial Marketer, you’ll build it. You’ll turn positioning and audience insights into compelling content that strengthens the TLDR brand, supports Sales, and helps us test new narratives and channels.

This is our first dedicated brand and editorial hire! You’ll report to the VP of Marketing and work closely with Growth, Product Marketing, and Demand Generation.

In this role, you will:
  • Define TLDR’s voice. Turn our positioning into a clear brand story, own our voice and tone guidelines, and help shape executive and thought-leadership content.

  • Own the editorial strategy and story pipeline. Build the content calendar and develop the themes, angles, and stories that fuel our owned social, Growth, and Demand Generation channels.

  • Turn data into insight. Partner with Strategy & Ops to transform first-party audience and performance data into trend reports, predictions, and other publishable content.

  • Create content that builds the brand and supports Sales. Develop B2B assets for Sales and Account Management, consumer-facing brand work, and test new formats and channels such as video, social campaigns, and creative brand projects.

  • Set the editorial bar. Own quality across Content Studio and partner with our curators to ensure a consistent TLDR voice across the brand.

What Success Looks Like

Within six months:

  • A year-ahead editorial calendar is published, with a defined B2B cadence and identified consumer moments.

  • The brand voice and tone guide is written, socialized, and applied to live Content Studio and curator output.

  • A set of B2B assets is the market (trend reports, predictions, performance guides), and reps reach for it without being asked.

  • A working story pipeline is handing narrative to the team for channel execution.

Within twelve months:

  • Content is a named contributor to inbound demand, with attribution in place.

  • Brand-voice review is a standing function that you own.

  • Consumer-facing narrative and campaign work is underway, not just planned.

About You
  • 7–10 years of content or editorial experience, with deep expertise in either B2B SaaS or media/newsletters and familiarity with the other.

  • Strong editorial and brand instincts, with experience owning an editorial calendar, developing brand voice and tone, and writing and editing across long- and short-form content.

  • A strategic, data-informed approach to content, using metrics like traffic, CTR, engagement, and attribution to understand performance.

  • Cross-functional experience, including partnering with Sales or Account Management on buyer-facing content and managing freelance or contract writers.

  • Bonus: You’ve built a content function from the ground up, worked in digital media or newsletters, or owned both B2B buyer content and consumer brand storytelling.

You’ll Thrive Here If…
  • You have strong editorial judgment. You know what’s worth publishing, can turn positioning into compelling content, and aren’t afraid to make the call.

  • You lead through influence. You’re comfortable working across Growth, Product Marketing, Content Studio, and external contributors without direct authority.

  • You’re a hands-on player-coach. You’d rather set the standard and ship great work than manage a large team. This is an individual contributor role by design.

  • You think audience-first and commercially. You understand both what resonates with readers and how content can support buyers, Sales, and broader business goals.

  • You’re excited to build from zero. You’ll define TLDR’s owned voice and content approach from the ground up—with an existing audience of millions already in place.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
