Description

High Alpha Innovation is a venture builder that partners with leading organizations and entrepreneurs to unlock growth and transformation through startup creation. Venture building has the potential to address society’s biggest problems. We believe the world needs more new companies to tackle these global issues. Launching new startups with scaled organizations enables them to address those challenges head-on.

We are seeking an Independent Board Member for our recently launched company, Aerton. The concept for this company was developed in partnership with Purdue University’s DIAL Ventures, which is dedicated to driving digital innovation in the food and agricultural industries. Aerton is developing a logistics optimization platform specifically designed to improve the movement of agricultural products through rural America. Our solution will enable ag retailers, manufacturers, and distributors to optimize routing, dispatching, and coordination, ensuring more efficient and cost-effective operations for their customers.

With Aerton, agricultural supply chain stakeholders can better coordinate load-sharing, reduce inefficiencies, and improve visibility into real-time logistics. By leveraging technology, Aerton is poised to solve one of the largest challenges in the industry—moving goods through rural areas where supply chain infrastructure is often fragmented and antiquated.

The right fit for this role is someone who has deep expertise in agriculture, logistics, and supply chain operations, with experience in bringing innovative SaaS solutions to legacy industries. They should have a strong network in agriculture and logistics, providing strategic insights into industry trends and helping drive adoption among key stakeholders.

As an independent board member, you’ll work closely with the founders and High Alpha Innovation teams, who have seen exponential growth across a variety of SaaS platforms in multiple industries.

As a key member of Aerton’s three-person board, you will be expected to attend all board meetings, engage with the founders and other board directors, and actively contribute and vote on important matters as needed. As the founders work to bring their product to market, you will use your network to make introductions to potential customers and investors and help to build conviction in the market. You will use your network and position in the market to support the founders with their go-to-market strategy and customer acquisition.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work closely with the founders and High Alpha Innovation teams to shape corporate strategy and position Aerton for success.
  • Attend all board meetings and actively contribute to decision-making.
  • Help the founding team build conviction in the market by leveraging your industry knowledge and connections.
  • Provide strategic input on customer acquisition, product-market fit, and fundraising efforts.
  • Use your network to make key introductions to potential customers, investors, and strategic partners.
  • Support the go-to-market strategy and help drive adoption among agricultural manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and co-ops.
  • Provide guidance on scaling operations, hiring key leadership talent, and managing financials effectively.
  • Assist in developing a long-term vision for how Aerton can expand its platform into a broader logistics coordination hub.
Requirements
  • Experience serving as a board member for a public or private for-profit organization.
  • Deep expertise in agriculture and logistics, including knowledge of ag supply chains and rural distribution challenges.
  • Experience building and scaling technology-driven solutions in legacy industries.
  • Strong connections within agriculture manufacturers, distributors, co-ops, and logistics companies (e.g., Syngenta, Bayer, Corteva, Nutrien, UberFreight, etc.).
  • A track record of helping early-stage technology companies scale, particularly in enterprise/B2B SaaS.
  • Fundraising experience and connections with relevant investors in logistics, supply chain, or ag-tech.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with a keen understanding of the challenges of building a company from scratch.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
