The Details:
As a BI Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the development and delivery of BI solutions across the organization. You will collaborate with stakeholders, analytics peers, and leadership to design solutions that truly fit business needs and drive decision-making. You will be accountable for the accuracy, usability, and ongoing enhancements of our Business Intelligence platform. Working alongside the Data team, you will help build the future of Business Intelligence at Palomar—making data effortless and accessible for strategic, profitable growth.
What will you do:
Solution Design and Delivery:
- Collaborate with business users to deeply understand stated and underlying needs, ensuring solutions deliver meaningful impact
- Design and develop reports, dashboards, and semantic models
- Modify and enhance existing reports, dashboards, and semantic models to meet evolving business needs
- Perform routine maintenance and optimization to keep our reporting inventory organized, accurate, and valuable for the business.
Data Validation and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of reports through thorough quality checks and peer review
- Perform basic data analysis to confirm source accuracy and identify anomalies, trends, and outliers prior to user acceptance testing
- Collaborate with data and business peers to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve data and reporting issues
Process Improvement and Documentation:
- Contribute to ongoing process improvement initiatives and suggest ways to enhance reporting efficiency
- Document reporting processes, methodologies, standards, and definitions for reference and knowledge sharing
- Stay updated on industry best practices, including modern solution design and data enablement processes
- Proactively build business acumen by learning about different functional areas and insurance industry terminology
Collaboration and Influence:
- Partner with business stakeholders to understand and prioritize needs, ensuring solutions align with their goals and downstream impacts
- Drive user adoption by providing training, clear documentation, and intuitive solutions
- Foster trust and strong working relationships across departments by demonstrating transparency, initiative, and follow-through
- Communicate effectively within the team to clarify requirements and provide timely updates on solution progress
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor's degree: relevant field, such as Analytics, IT, or Business or related experience.
- 2+ years of experience in a reporting or analytics role.
- Proficiency with reporting tools like Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Experience with Excel
- Experience in SQL and data manipulation techniques.
- Basic understanding of data warehousing concepts.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with an ability to interpret data and draw meaningful insights.
- Effectively and efficiently present logic, reasoning, and analysis to others.
- Insurance experience strongly preferred.

Pay Range: $80,000 - $120,000
The above pay range is for all US-based roles based on function and level, benchmarked against companies of similar size and scope. To be compliant with local legislation as well as provide greater transparency to candidates, we disclose salary ranges on all job postings regardless of the desired job location. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and the opportunity for annual long-term incentive stock grants. In addition, we offer a highly competitive benefits package. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and qualifications, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
