This role is ideal for a highly experienced benefits analyst ready to formalize people leadership and take ownership of operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

Benefits Operations & Process Management

  • Develop, document, and continuously improve standard operating procedures to ensure consistency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Monitor and ensure timely and accurate execution of benefits processes across health, welfare, and retirement programs.

People Management & Oversight

  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance management for up to one Benefits Administrator.
  • Review work output for accuracy and compliance; provide guidance on complex cases and escalations as part of a formal quality assurance framework.
  • Lead cross-training and continuity planning within benefits operations to reduce key-person dependency and ensure uninterrupted service.

Open Enrollment & Program Execution

  • Manage the operational execution of annual open enrollment, including system configuration, testing, employee data integrity, and post‑enrollment audits, ensuring back-up coverage, process validation and error prevention.
  • Partner with the Benefits Director on enrollment planning, timeline development, and vendor coordination.
  • Ensure operational readiness for program changes directed by leadership.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure benefits processes comply with applicable regulations (e.g., ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA).
  • Manage day‑to‑day compliance activities such as audits, reporting support, and documentation maintenance.
  • Partner with Payroll, HR Operations, and Legal to resolve compliance or data issues.

HRIS & Data Management

  • Serve as the primary owner of benefits configuration and data integrity within the HRIS and benefits administration platforms.
  • Run regular audits and reconciliations to ensure accurate payroll deductions and vendor billing.
  • Generate standard operational reports and provide data support to the Benefits Director as needed.

Employee & Stakeholder Support

  • Act as an escalation point for complex employee benefit inquiries and case resolution.
  • Provide guidance to HR partners and managers on benefits processes and policies.
  • Support clear, accurate employee communications related to benefits administration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in benefits administration or benefits analysis.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. health and welfare and retirement plans.
  • Demonstrated experience managing benefits processes, data, and systems.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising others in an operational capacity.
  • Advanced attention to detail, strong problem‑solving skills, and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Proficiency on MS suite of products (Office, Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and HRIS software (experience with Workday a plus).

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
