About FirstSteps

The FirstSteps Team is inspired by the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential. To that end, our mission is twofold: to provide the best evidence-based, behavior analytic treatment to our children diagnosed with autism and related learning differences, and to offer a positive, collaborative, and dynamic work experience for our team. We are steadfastly committed to ongoing training and mentorship of our employees, always motivated to support the next generation of clinical leaders in our field and at FirstSteps. Our greatest reward is witnessing the rapid and joyful learning of our little ones and knowing that together, we are creating more happy days for the kids and families we serve.

You became a BCBA to practice. We built a job where you can.

You became a BCBA to change children's lives, support families, mentor clinicians, and make thoughtful clinical decisions.

You shouldn't have to choose between doing meaningful clinical work and having a sustainable career.

At FirstSteps, clinical work comes first. We're a privately owned, clinician-led ABA organization where BCBAs have the time, support, and autonomy to stay close to the children and families they serve.

A Caseload You Can Actually Manage

Our Program Directors typically support 12–14 children and lead clinical teams of 7–12 RBTs, creating the space to stay engaged with your cases, your team, and your families.

We also believe in clear, achievable clinical expectations.

Full-time BCBAs have a 115 billable-hour monthly expectation, with additional incentives for those who choose to take on more. Your clinical workload is designed to be clear from the start, so you can focus on quality care rather than chasing an ever-moving productivity target.

Clinical Autonomy. Real Support.

You know your clients best. We trust our BCBAs to make thoughtful decisions based on the individual child, family, and clinical need.

You'll have:

  • Manageable caseloads
  • In-person clinical support
  • Strong BCBA mentorship and collaboration
  • Autonomy in clinical decision-making
  • Time to build meaningful relationships with families and RBTs
  • Opportunities to mentor and grow as a clinician and leader

And you won't find:

  • Oversized caseloads
  • Supervision primarily through telehealth
  • Pressure to rush clinical decisions
  • One-size-fits-all treatment
$85K–$95K DOE + Clinical Performance Incentives

Plus a benefits package built to support your career and your life:

  • Health, dental & vision with generous employer contribution
  • 401(k) with generous company match
  • Company-sponsored BACB CEUs + CASP membership
  • Annual conference stipend + paid attendance
  • Generous PTO + 10 paid holidays
  • Monthly data stipend
  • EAP + wellness incentives
  • Employee referral bonus
  • Team-building events and a collaborative, family-friendly environment
What If Your BCBA Job Actually Felt Sustainable?

If you're looking for a place where clinical work comes first, your judgment is valued, and you're supported to do your best work, let's talk.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
