Maple transforms institutional lending, leveraging innovative technology to empower lending markets.

Our goal is to be the most reliable lender in the global financial system, distinguished by our commitment to superior user experience and transparency. At Maple, we embody a culture of ownership, relentless execution, and unwavering commitment to our customers, partners and team.

Founded in 2019, Maple has grown to become the leading institutional lender across crypto markets having originated >$17B in loans to date. The team has built a dynamic and innovative product that leverages the benefits of blockchain and smart contract technology with an intuitive and feature rich application.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced and talented Backend Engineer with several years of first-rate commercial experience to join our Risk & Ops Engineering team. This team builds the internal tooling that powers Maple's lending and trading operations — the dashboards, workflows, and automation that our risk, ops, and trading teams rely on every day to manage billions of dollars of institutional loans, collateral and trading assets.
The position requires a deep understanding of modern backend development and a working knowledge of Web3 and Ethereum. You'll be working with a small, focused team in agile sprints, taking ownership of end-to-end features and resolving technical roadblocks as they emerge. We are a fully remote team located across Europe and the Americas.

The Opportunity
This role puts the right candidate at the heart of a Global Capital Markets platform for the future of Institutional Asset Management, with direct impact on how Maple's lending and trading operations run day-to-day.
In this role you will build the internal tools our operators use to originate loans, manage collateral, monitor positions, execute trades, and keep the protocol running safely — using cutting-edge tech and tooling in these fast, exciting times of Web3 exploration.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain clean, maintainable, secure, and well-tested backend code (TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL)
  • Build internal tooling — dashboards, workflows, and automation — for Maple's lending and trading operations
  • Contribute to the technical design of product features, including architectural planning and external integrations (custodians, trading venues, data providers)
  • Model and implement complex business processes with durable, auditable workflows
  • Design and implement scalable APIs, services, and backend systems for reliability and maintainability
  • Collaborate with Risk, Ops, Trading, Product, and Engineering teams to define, prioritize, and deliver impactful solutions
  • Monitor, debug, and optimize backend performance and address bottlenecks or issues
  • Ensure security best practices are implemented and maintained throughout the codebase

Requirements
  • Proficient in JavaScript and TypeScript, with at least 5 years of professional experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Node.js and GraphQL APIs, including building and optimizing them for scale
  • Experience with event-driven and asynchronous architectures
  • Hands-on experience with SQL (e.g. PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (e.g. MongoDB) databases, including schema design and performance tuning
  • Strong background in DevOps practices, including AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform, with experience in CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code
  • Deep understanding of software documentation procedures and the ability to write clear, comprehensive documentation
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a strong ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
  • Located in Europe

Nice to haves
  • Experience building financial software for external or internal customers
  • Experience building dashboards, workflows, and other operational tooling
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, including data integration or analytics use cases
  • Experience with Temporal or other durable workflow orchestration
  • Handling sensitive data in regulated/high-assurance environments
  • Experience with The Graph and AssemblyScript, or other blockchain indexing stacks
  • Experience coding with Solidity
  • Exposure to custodians (Fordefi, Anchorage, Fireblocks), trading venues, or market-data providers
  • Background in finance, capital markets, lending, or DeFi protocols

If you subscribe to the values of Maple - Personal Ownership, Focused Execution, User Prioritisation, Innovative Mindset - and want to be part of a collaborative culture focused on bringing Global Finance into the future, then we want to hear from you!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
