Role Summary

The Cloud Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining cloud infrastructure and services, ensuring their optimal performance, security, and reliability. This role involves day-to-day operational support for cloud environments, including provisioning, monitoring, and troubleshooting cloud resources. The Cloud Administrator will work closely with IT teams and stakeholders to support cloud-based applications and services, implement best practices, and ensure alignment with organizational goals.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Cloud Infrastructure Management: Oversee and manage cloud infrastructure, including provisioning, configuring, and maintaining cloud resources (e.g., virtual machines, storage, networks).
  • Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor cloud environments for performance, availability, and security, and optimize resource utilization to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues related to cloud services, including network, storage, and computer problems.
  • Security Management: Implement and enforce security best practices, including access controls, encryption, and compliance with security policies.
  • Backup and Recovery: Manage backup and recovery processes to ensure data protection and availability in case of failures or disasters.
  • Automation: Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools to streamline cloud operations and improve efficiency.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of cloud infrastructure, configurations, and operational procedures.
  • Support and Collaboration: Provide support to development and operations teams, collaborating to resolve issues and implement cloud-based solutions.
  • Cost Management: Monitor and manage cloud expenditures, optimizing costs through efficient resource allocation and usage.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in cloud administration or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in managing cloud infrastructure, including virtual machines, storage, and networking.
  • Proven experience with major cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications or advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Certifications:
    • Cloud-related certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Google Cloud Certified - Associate Cloud Engineer) are preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Cloud Infrastructure: Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and services, including compute, storage, networking, and databases.
  • Monitoring and Optimization: Proficiency in monitoring tools and practices, with the ability to optimize cloud resources for performance and cost.
  • Troubleshooting: Excellent problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving issues related to cloud environments.
  • Security Awareness: Knowledge of cloud security best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Automation: Experience with scripting and automation tools to streamline cloud operations (e.g., Python, Bash, Terraform).
  • Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information effectively.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with IT teams, developers, and other stakeholders.
