Job Description Summary

Do you want to help people protect their pet’s health and their financial freedom to take care of them? We are the first and largest pet health insurer in the United States, and we’re looking for the best people to help us on our way to protecting the health of one million pets!
As an AVP, you’ll oversee the performance of all insurance products & form development responsibilities associated with Pet state management on a country-wide basis. You’ll also lead the product strategy, design and development, compliance maintenance, ongoing performance improvements, innovation, and excellence for all products offered by Pet. We’ll count on you to ensure profit and growth for all insurance products at a state and country-wide level.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Oversees the product strategy for Pet, including the development, implementation, and maintenance of all products in all states.

  • Delivers business outcomes in areas of product usage and product quality, including tracking and improving adoption, growth, retention, product engagement scores, time to value, Net Promoter Scores (NPS), etc.

  • Implements product pricing deviations at a state level and identifies technology needs to support these differences. Implements the pricing tools necessary to enhance Pet product P&L and create efficiency gains.

  • Ensures execution of state product pricing activities to drive profitable growth results and achieve business goals. Manages form creation and revisions process in compliance with state statues.

  • Partners with leaders across the organization to ensure successful product placement. Provides input to interdependent business unit areas related to a comprehensive product offering, responding to the needs of the customers. Identifies opportunities to position Pet products in new ways.

  • Collaborates with Pet leadership to manage risk.

  • Participates on various industry committees to promote the company. Keeps the company’s best interest in the forefront while interacting with the broader enterprise in common or leveraged areas. Sponsors or provides oversight for special projects.

  • Influences business decisions, collaborates in strategic planning and policy development for the company as well as tactical planning. Ensures execution of company initiatives.

  • Oversees associate management including hiring and placement, engagement and diversity, performance management and coaching, and salary planning and administration. Selects, trains, develops, coaches, and mentors to achieve objectives and maintain high degree of competency.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships:  Reports to VP, Operational Excellence – Pet. Leads a team of 3 or more direct reports and approximately 12  indirect reports..

Typical Skills and Experiences: 

Education:  Undergraduate degree in Business, Economic, Finance preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Completion of general insurance courses, such as CPCU, preferred.

Experience:  Typically, 10 or more years of experience in product, pricing, insurance, financial services, marketing or communication, including 5 or more years of management experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:  Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form, with all levels of management; advanced organizational abilities and the capability to manage several diverse tasks concurrently; high levels of credibility and professionalism in dealings with senior executives.  Skills include strategic agility, results orientation, customer focus, effective team building, decision making quality, organizational agility, business acumen.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.

Actual compensation may be prorated based on the number of hours worked relative to a full-time schedule.

The national salary range for AVP, Product - Pet : $162,000.00-$320,000.00

The expected starting salary range for AVP, Product - Pet : $171,000.00 - $287,000.00
