This is a high‑visibility, customer‑facing leadership role responsible for driving strategy, scaling a world‑class team, and accelerating revenue growth across our Collaboration Protection portfolio.

Role Overview

As the AVP, you will lead four global specialist sales teams with three Regional Directors (RDs) as your direct reports. You will be accountable for developing and executing the Collaboration Protection go‑to‑market strategy, coaching and developing leaders and specialists, and ensuring consistent performance and growth in partnership with core sales leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

    • Lead, mentor, and develop three Regional Directors and their global specialist teams (~17 Sales Specialists total).
    • Build, retain, and scale a high-performing sales organization with deep expertise in Collaboration Protection solutions.
    • Create a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Go‑to‑Market Strategy & Execution

    • Own and refine the global Collaboration Protection GTM strategy, including segmentation, positioning, enablement, and execution plans.

    • Establish regional and global operating rhythms, forecast accuracy, and performance visibility.

Sales & Customer Engagement

    • Carry quota for the Collaboration Protection products within the Advanced Technology Group (ATG) portfolio.
    • Lead your teams to expand presence in existing accounts while developing net-new opportunities across all regions.
    • Play a hands-on role in major deals: support sales cycles, join customer meetings, deliver executive presentations, and help close strategic opportunities.
    • Partner with Marketing, Product, and Sales Engineering to accelerate product adoption and customer success.

Cross-Functional Alignment

    • Serve as the primary bridge between ATG, Core Sales, Product, and Executive Leadership, ensuring clear communication and shared priorities.
    • Provide actionable field insights to influence product roadmap and innovation.
    • Support enablement programs to ensure the broader sales organization can effectively position and sell new technologies.

What Success Looks Like

    • A highly skilled, engaged specialist team operating with excellence and consistency.
    • Clear, effective GTM plans that drive year‑over‑year revenue growth.
    • Strong relationships across Core Sales leadership with aligned execution in all regions.
    • Increased product adoption, pipeline expansion, and improved win rates across the Collaboration Protection portfolio.
    • Direct contribution to closing top deals and establishing Proofpoint as the market leader in Collaboration Protection technologies.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

    • Drive Field Engagement: Serve as a hands-on leader in a highly visible, customer-facing role; actively engage in key account strategies and directly support closing high‑value deals.
    • Lead, Mentor & Develop Talent: Recruit, hire, train, and coach a high-performing specialist sales team, ensuring consistent skills development and performance improvement.
    • Operate as a Data‑Driven Leader: Use metrics, analytics, and performance insights to guide decision-making, refine strategy, and improve execution.
    • Channel & Partner Strategy: Define partner plans and collaborate with channel teams to generate incremental revenue and expand market reach.
    • Pipeline & Forecasting Excellence: Manage pipeline health, ensure rigorous deal inspection, and deliver accurate forecasting.
    • Drive Sales Discipline: Guide teams in executing a structured sales process—including territory planning, account and opportunity plans, and MEDDICC methodology.
    • Market & Competitive Awareness: Maintain deep knowledge of the competitive landscape and evolving market trends to inform positioning and sales strategy.
    • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Sales Engineering, Professional Services, Marketing, and Support to accelerate deal cycles, enhance customer outcomes, and drive product adoption.
    • Customer Relationship Leadership: Build and nurture strategic customer relationships; create and execute plans that expand the company’s footprint within key accounts and across the broader market.

What You Bring to the Team (Qualifications)

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
