  • What would it take? We challenge assumptions to deliver ambitious results
  • It’s the people. Our team is our competitive advantage and we are better together

YOUR MISSION

As the Avionics Technician Manager on the Production and Test team, you will lead and develop a team of avionics technicians responsible for the assembly, integration, and test of spacecraft electrical systems. You will drive execution across hardware builds, set the standard for workmanship and process discipline, and partner closely with engineering, quality, and operations to scale production and deliver mission-ready hardware.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Team Leadership: Hire, develop, and manage a team of avionics technicians across skill levels. Set clear expectations, provide hands-on mentorship, and build a high-performance culture focused on safety, quality, and velocity.
  • Production Execution: Own daily build schedules and technician assignments to meet hardware delivery milestones. Identify and remove blockers, drive accountability, and maintain flow across avionics assembly, integration, and test operations.
  • Process Development and Improvement: Partner with engineering and quality teams to develop and refine work instructions, traveler documentation, and assembly processes. Champion continuous improvement to reduce build time, defect rate, and rework.
  • Quality and Workmanship: Enforce IPC/WHMA-A-620 and IPC-A-610 workmanship standards across the team. Lead root cause and corrective action (RCCA) efforts for nonconformances and drive closure.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the primary interface between the avionics technician team and engineering, quality, and program management. Communicate build status, risks, and resource needs clearly and proactively.
  • Safety and Compliance: Maintain a safe work environment and ensure the team adheres to ESD, FOD, and cleanroom protocols. Hold the line on process compliance without compromising schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical degree or certification in avionics, electronics, or a relevant field
  • Significant hands-on experience in aerospace avionics assembly, integration, and test
  • Proven experience leading or supervising technician teams in a production environment
  • Deep proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and work instructions
  • Experience driving RCCA and nonconformance resolution
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 and IPC-A-610 certification
  • Experience scaling avionics production operations at a spacecraft or launch vehicle company
  • Familiarity with ERP and MES systems for production tracking
  • Background in automated test equipment and GSE integration

COMPENSATION

  • Base Salary: $120,000 - $165,000
  • Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, location, and experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work Location—Successful candidates will be located near Denver or Colorado Springs. While we observe a hybrid work environment, some work must be done on site.
  • Work environment—the work environment; temperature, noise level, inside or outside, or other factors that will affect the person's working conditions while performing the job.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
