Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. We design and deliver propulsion and defense systems that solve the most urgent and critical national security demands. 

The Avionics Manager is a key role that will manage an integrated product team responsible for delivering avionics hardware, software, and mechanical solutions.  The team is responsible for engine instrumentation, harnessing, controllers (board layout, design and enclosures), FPGAs, embedded and user-interface software. The team also maintains and operates the component-level HIL (Hardware in the Loop) testing facility, as well as component-level acceptance and qualification testing plans and procedures. The team also assists other areas of the business with expertise related to electronic hardware and internally developed embedded software.

As an Avionics Manager, you will lead a team of engineers designing, testing, assembling and integrating in-house developed avionics components for our launch vehicles and spacecraft.  The team will also provide technical support and oversight for subcontracted AV hardware.

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage the design, development, integration, test, and qualification tasks for Avionics components from conceptualization to hand-off to production.
  • Ensure design processes are met while supporting the business needs for speed and agility.
  • Responsible for the Avionics schedule and key milestones, managing and coordinating the team’s efforts to complete projects on-time.
  • Responsible for aligning Avionics resources required to execute.
  • Monitor and report Avionics program health to Avionics Director on a weekly basis.
  • Own evaluation of Avionics cost, schedule and technical risks/opportunities, drive mitigations of risks and realization of opportunities.
  • Identify and help realize program or product opportunities to strength the business.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 7+ years of engineering experience designing/developing electronic systems and assemblies
  • 3+ years leading teams of engineers in electronics design/development efforts to field integrated hardware-software products
  • Proven leadership experience, preferably in the Aerospace and Defense industry
  • Must be a US Person with ability to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations and/or program requirements

Preferred Experience:

  • Advanced degree in a technical field
  • Understanding of basic subsystems of a launch vehicle and how avionics integrate within the vehicle
  • Experience with launch vehicle avionics component design and analysis
  • Hands-on experience with integration of electronics in airborne vehicles
  • Experience in project management
  • Ability to obtain Department of Defense Security Clearance

Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $150,000 - $180,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The salary range for this role is intentionally wide as we are evaluating individuals based on their unique experience and abilities to fit our needs.
