Who we are

Semafor is a global news platform for an increasingly complex world in which consumers are overwhelmed by too many news sources and unsure what to trust. We are building Semafor to enable world-class journalists to deliver reporting and insights with rigor in journalistic forms that ensure a new level of transparency. Our editors and reporters distill the most important stories from all over in formats that uncover the forces shaping the stories, explain the interests behind polarizing narratives, and replenish the stock of shared facts. As a global platform, Semafor recognizes that smart people can disagree and that informed readers need to understand alternative points of view from competing centers of power and culture in a multi-polar world. About this Role

We're looking for a sharp, detail-oriented Audience Development Coordinator to join our growing team. This is an operations-heavy role designed for someone early in their career who’s eager to get hands-on experience across media, events, and marketing.

You'll play a key role in supporting the execution of high-profile editorial events, newsletters, and advertising campaigns, managing the back-end systems that ensure our content reaches the right people at the right time.

Your Responsibilities
  • Build and manage event registration websites using internal tools and third-party platforms
  • Manage the operations of audience-facing email campaigns — from invites to confirmations and reminders
  • Support audience targeting efforts through list building and data research
  • Maintain accurate records in our CRM and email marketing tools
  • Coordinate ad placements and track inventory across newsletters, web, and podcasts
  • Generate reports on email performance and audience engagement
What makes you qualified
  • 2-3+ years of experience in marketing, media, events, or related fields (internships count!).
  • Strong organizational skills and a sharp attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and navigating digital tools — bonus if you’ve worked with CRMs, email marketing platforms, or CMSs.
  • A proactive communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • A team player who’s curious, adaptable, and eager to learn

Additional Job Details

This position is ideally based out of either our New York, NY or Washington, D.C. offices, but we are open to remote candidates outside either region.

Comprehensive employee benefits: unlimited PTO, medical, dental, vision, short & long-term disability, flexible spending, health savings accounts, life insurance, 401(k), pre-Tax commuter benefits, and paid parental leave.

Salary Range: $75,000 to $85,000 Base salary. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
