Key Responsibilities
- Lead orbital determination and astrodynamics analysis for mission-critical space operations, including precise orbit determination, maneuver planning, and trajectory optimization.
- Develop and implement mission planning strategies for satellite operations, payload deployment, and orbital rendezvous missions.
- Analyze and process imagery and sensor data to support navigation, target identification, and mission success metrics.
- Design and optimize algorithms for orbital mechanics problems, including propagation models, collision avoidance, rendezvous proximity operations, and debris tracking.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to translate astrodynamics requirements into actionable software specifications and system designs.
- Support real-time mission operations by providing orbital analysis, anomaly investigation, and operational recommendations.
- Contribute to the development of automated tools and software solutions that enhance mission planning efficiency and accuracy.
- Conduct trade studies and analysis for payload operations, orbit selection, and mission feasibility assessments.
- Interface with external partners and customers to understand mission requirements and deliver technical solutions that meet operational needs.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Astrodynamics, Physics, Mathematics, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3-7 years of experience in orbital mechanics, astrodynamics, or space mission operations.
Strong background in orbital determination, trajectory analysis, and space mission planning. - Proficiency with astrodynamics software tools (STK, GMAT, Orekit, or similar).
- Experience with MATLAB, Python, or similar technical computing environments.
- Flexibility to support mission-critical operations including extended hours or weekends as needed.
- Must be able to obtain a Secret and/or a TS/SCI clearance.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Master's or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Astrodynamics, or related field.
- Experience with precise orbit determination using GPS, radar, or optical tracking data.
- Knowledge of imagery analysis, computer vision, or remote sensing applications.
- Experience with mission planning for LEO, GEO, or deep space missions.
- Familiarity with space situational awareness and debris tracking methodologies.
- Background in payload operations and spacecraft systems engineering.
Nice to Haves:
- Software development experience with Go, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or C++.
- Full-stack development skills and experience building web applications or APIs.
- Experience with machine learning or AI applications in space domain.
Knowledge of distributed computing and cloud platforms (AWS, Kubernetes). - Experience with real-time systems and operational software development.
- Familiarity with database design and data pipeline development.
- Background in GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) systems.
- Experience with space industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Active involvement in professional organizations (AAS, AIAA, etc.).
- Publications or patents in astrodynamics or space-related fields.
