The University of Miami/UHealth has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Vice President, Clinical Financial Operations.                                                                    

The Assoc. VP, Clinical Financial Operations, is responsible for the supervision and management of all matters
related to financial policies, financial management, and financial analysis for the University of Miami clinical
operations, consisting of the hospital, clinics and physician practices. The Associate VP, Clinical Financial
Operations, is responsible for the ongoing monitoring of operational and financial performance and the
development and implementation of improvement actions plan, as necessary. Additionally, the Associate. VP,
Clinical Financial Operations, is focused on ensuring collaborative and cohesive financial operations across the
clinical continuum, ensuring coordination of financial and business systems and processes. The incumbent is
expected to maintain collaborative relationships with senior leaders and managers for effective change
management while seeking to continuously improve financial operations in conjunction with clinical senior
leadership.

Core Job Functions:
1. Develops and tracks financial performance metric standards across the clinical enterprise for internal
achievement and external benchmarking with peers, educates operational leadership in the relevance
of established financial metrics.
2. Ensures monthly financial reviews and productivity reviews are conducted consistently and coordinated
across the clinical enterprise.
3. Presents financial reports to operational leadership on a routine basis.
4. Coordinates and assists leadership in strategic plan coordination and financial oversight of pro-forma
business plan results to actuals with a focus on identifying opportunities for improvements and
efficiencies to support current goals and objectives.
5. Directs operating plan preparation and forecasting in conjunction with the office of financial planning
and analysis.
6. Monitors financial performance of service lines across the enterprise.
7. Serves as the Clinical Finance representative on all committees as requested.
8. Ensures that all operational managers are provided training on all available financial systems and reports
that are necessary to independently manage their departments.
9. Trains, mentors, hires, and supervises department staff, as needed.
10. Ensures internal control oversight and compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding of assets,
compliance with university policies and procedures, reliability of internal and external reporting, and
efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Creates an effective control environment, conducts risk
assessment, implements and monitors controls.

Core Qualifications:                                          

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent.

Experience:

Minimum 10 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • Ability to translate and present complicated concepts into simple items with actionable analysis.

Department Specific Functions:

This Associate. VP, Clinical Financial Operations will support the Ambulatory Services leadership in the evaluation of the financial performance of key locations, offering insight into financial outcomes and business processes to support organizational goals.  This position collaborates across multiple departments, shared services, and financial peers.  Success in this role requires strong communication skills, the ability to simplify complex concepts, effective teamwork, and a solid understanding of finance and accounting principles.
