Reporting to the VP of Corporate Development, the Associate Vice President of
Business Development (AVP) and Strategy will be a key member of the Corporate and Business Development team. S/he will also be a key member of Agilent's executive staff with dotted-line accountability to the Group President. S/he will combine solid business acumen, strong strategic thinking, strong domain knowledge, and industry contacts to facilitate inorganic strategy in partnership with group-level strategy teams. S/he will also contribute to Agilent's Enterprise-level long-range strategy and lead select strategic initiatives with an emphasis on inorganic growth.
The AVP of BD will own building the M&A funnel and progress targets through the M&A lifecycle. The AVP of BD will also be responsible for facilitating the active cultivation of priority M&A targets. In partnership with leadership, they will be a key architect of the investment thesis and major strategic assumptions for all inorganic investments and lead strategic diligence on those opportunities. They will be a member of the core team responsible for advising and driving alignment between the Agilent CEO and CEO staff on all inorganic opportunities.
Critical success factors for the position include:
Strategic ability; proven experience in developing and executing multi-year strategic plans at Company, Group, or Business Unit level
Experience in building/forming inorganic growth strategies, supporting key business objectives, and progressing targets through an M&A lifecycle, including market/target identification, target cultivation, and establishing strategic rationale
Experience in leading adjacency analysis in partnership with key stakeholders to explore non-core inorganic opportunities
Proven ability to effectively engage, interact with, influence, and retain the confidence of senior executives and peers at the executive level
Relevant domain knowledge/understanding of the platforms, technologies/science, and relevant market dynamics
Ability to identify, advance, negotiate, and close business development and strategic collaboration opportunities (partnering, licensing, acquisition) while working closely with Agilent partners
Essential Duties and Capabilities:
Identify, analyze, recommend, and lead actions for possible acquisitions and investments in support of business and enterprise-level strategies by effectively utilizing data and knowledge of market segments, customers, and competition, determining priorities and tradeoffs
Serve as M&A lead for the business, guiding teams through a consistent and rigorous process to develop deal thesis, fact base, and synergy identification with business sponsors. Maintain close partnership with Corporate Development for transaction process, diligence, and negotiations
Partner with business and Integration teams for M&A post-close planning related to M&A business case realization
Support Strategic Program Office in strategy development and achieving enterprise objectives, focusing on inorganic and long-term growth, and understanding drivers of shareholder value and relevant business models
Serve as partner to leadership team and SCD team with strong financial and analytical acumen
Personal credibility - consistently offer perspective, counsel, and insight. Maintain integrity and conviction while collaborating with teams to address issues directly and constructively. Build productive collaborations and partnerships, both internally and externally
Maintain awareness of competitive dynamics, market conditions, and trends
MBA or technical degree related to life sciences
10+ years of experience in one or more of the following functions: business development, corporate development, strategic marketing, market analysis, strategy, business consulting, or related positions with increasing levels of management responsibilities
Demonstrated track record of results utilizing interpersonal, relationship-building skills required in leading multi-cultural and geographically dispersed teams in a fast-paced, highly matrixed environment
Demonstrated written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including explaining complex concepts, and delivering presentations to senior executive audiences. Ability to make clear conceptual arguments
Experience in facilitating and influencing decision-making, and the ability to work collaboratively across all levels and multiple businesses
Experience working in a fast-paced environment, ideally with exposure to M&A diligence processes, and the ability to thrive in an environment of ambiguity and complexity that relies heavily on collaboration and cross-functional interaction
Leadership maturity, confidence, and a high degree of emotional intelligence

This job has a full time weekly schedule. It includes the option to work remotely. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
